Why Obama failed to get a bounce out of Biden

Not only did Obama fail to get a bounce out of his selection of Senator Joe Biden as his running mate, according to Gallup Poll Daily tracking from August 23 to August 25, John McCain now enjoys a slight lead at 46% to 44%. Unfortunately, the August 25 poll doesn’t tell us whether Obama got any bounce out of the first night of the convention, because most of the polling was done before the prime time speeches.

The August 20 Battleground Poll may provide some insight into why there was no bounce from the Biden announcement. Bruce Walker at American Thinker wrote an interesting piece earlier in the week, The Biggest Missing Story in Politics. Walker follows the non-partisan Battleground Poll. For some reason, Question D3 is widely ignored.

What is Question D3 and what were the results to Question D3 in the August 20, 2008 Battleground Poll?  It is this:“When thinking about politics and government, do you consider yourself to be…

Very conservative

Somewhat conservative

MODERATE

Somewhat liberal

Very liberal

UNSURE/REFUSED”

In August 2008, Americans answered that question this way:  (1) 20% of Americans considered themselves to be very conservative; (2) 40% of Americans considered themselves to be somewhat conservative; (3) 2% of Americans considered themselves to be moderate; (4) 27% of Americans considered themselves to be somewhat liberal; (5) 9% of Americans considered themselves to be very liberal; and (6) 3% of Americans did not know or refused to answer.

Walker provides further analysis of the poll and the importance of Question 3D. It’s interesting and could explain Obama’s failure to gain anything from the Biden announcement. Barack Obama is the most liberal US Senator and Biden comes in at number three.

Obama most certainly did get a bounce , a very prominent one out of Biden. Those who did not see it must have been nodding off or inebriated.. And the latest polls show that Obama has a slight lead over McCain. When writing an article….information needs to be researched and assessed in the right way.

You are free to click on the link to the Gallup Poll. It’s a three day tracking poll for the period 8/23 to 8/25, McCain led by 2 points. One day polls are less accurate.
