Did anyone watch or hear coverage of the Senate Banking Committee circus today? I was in the car and listened to most of it on the radio, then caught highlights later on the news. I kept thinking, the Senate fiddles while Wall Street burns.
I understand the reluctance to spend $700 BILLION to bail out mismanaged financial institutions with no guarantee it will solve the problem. What really got my goat is the way these Democrats are trying to play pin the blame on the elephant.
Chris Dodd had the gall to say something like “Americans are angry and want to know how we got to this point.” Is he kidding? He doesn’t remember a bill he voted against three years ago? A bill (sponsored by Republicans) that would have created a new regulatory agency to oversee Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? An agency that would have had the same powers as bank regulators?
In fact, all of the Democrats voted against that bill. But who’s counting? They were worried that more people wouldn’t be able to buy homes they couldn’t afford. They also didn’t want to ruffle feathers with their big campaign donors.
So all of the Democrats suffering from amnesia are now out there blasting President Bush, John McCain and Republicans in general for the mess they created. The hypocricy and hubris is beyond stunning. But even more amazing is that the Democrats may actually pick up seats in the November election!

all dems are suffering from selective amnesia at this point in the game.

I watched much of it. You’ve should have seen the grave, disapproving look on Dodd’s face.
They remember only what’s convenient, and when it isn’t convenient, they lie and change history.

What we conservatives need to get through our heads is that Democrats just have no shame!

I watched it off and on. Painful, is the best way I can describe it. And, shameful, the people looking gain political ground add pork to something which I believe is nothing more than pork. We do not know the actual outcome of a credit meltdown. Will institutions world wide just sit there and watch their billions go down the drain or will they act to right the ship. We will never know as socialism has arrived with a full boat on our shores.
One has to wonder how the congress would act if there was no press coverage? Rather than creating transparency it has created a circus. The first word that comes to mind is SHAM. From both sides we saw nothing explaining exactly how they will fix the problem.
Excellent post.
