New York Times – Still calling voters stupid!

September 14, 2008

The opinion page of the New York Times this morning is chock full of columns about how a vote for McCain/Palin is stupid.

Maureen Dowd says “An Arctic blast of action has swept into the 2008 race, making thinking passé.” Thomas Friedman’s column is titled “Making America Stupid”. I’m not sure where they grew up, but someone should tell them that people don’t like being called names, especially stupid.

Frank Rich didn’t come right out and call us stupid, for which I was grateful, until I read his wordy column calling us racist. He rambled about some other things too, but I got really bored and forgot what I read immediately.

The New York Times just doesn’t seem to understand that the more they insult us, and the more they attack John McCain and Sarah Palin, they are simply causing further damage to their candidate. I hope they keep it up right until election day.

I feel like I’m back in boot camp with the constant, “left right left” barrage from the chattering class. No doubt the media is making a fortune from Sarah Palin. ABC News had the best ratings in a Gibson’s age with the interview. O’Reilly can spend a lot more time hocking his book with the rating he got with Obama. We’ve had sex, scandal, and blood (albeit carribou blood) on front pages.

It’s very difficult to sustain such a feeding frenzy. Sooner or later many will become bored. Even with the vast devastation of two hurricanes, a train wreck, and a plane crash we keep coming back to the political drama. But you better believe they will try.

So we the people end up in the middle of the court, the net watching the ball pass over back and forth. Occasionally a net chord occurs giving us a glimpse of what we ant to know, and now and then we get to capture the debate. When that happens the judge (the media) calls a fault and they get a do over.

So keep your eyes open for the obvious flash points that the media will promote in the weeks ahead:

    Left vs. Right
    Conservative vs. Liberal
    Male vs. Female
    Black vs. White
    Old vs.Young
    Jock vs. Nerd
    Smart vs. Stupid
    Elite vs. Common
    West vs. East
    Cocaine vs. Beer
American League vs. National League (oops, wrong blog)
    Me vs. US

Add your own for even more fun. Want to know where somebody stands? Don’t ask, “Do you want McCain or Obama?”, ask “Do you watch Fox or MSNBC?”

It should be an interesting all. And I like the National League, both in baseball and football!

I was also thinking there may be a little of whine vs. beer, but that’s just me:)

Maureen Dowd is the most vicious, vile, and venomous people alive. She is a self righteous ego-maniac. Let’s be clear about this. Sarah Palin has accomplished more than Ms. Dowd ever will.

It appears to me that the New York Time’s circulation count goes down in inverse proportion to the number of times they call middle Americans ‘stupid’.

One wonders who the really ‘stupid’ are…

    Thanks, LC.

It’s true: That blast of Arctic air has frozen my thinker. I’m now completey stupid. Thinking be irrelevant. You bet.

Guess that means I’m ready to vote for Obama-Biden?

    Wrong.

NYT’s circulation is now limited to a few block area around its NYC HQ, professional politicians of a definitely liberal persuasion, and copies mailed to university campuses.

NYT: Losses this Quarter – $700 million; losses last Quarter – $700 + million. NYT is in the unenviable position of the ‘rat chasing its own tail’: readership is in a tailspin thereby causing advertisers to withdraw in droves, which forces the paper to introduce massive personnel cuts, which affects the paper’s ability to improve its “product”, which in turn causes even MORE readers to “unsubscribe” and thus renew the pathetic circle. Looks like we won’t have the ‘Old Gray Lady’ to kick around much longer, thank God!

Sam (comment 3) doesn’t much like Dowd. I liked her fine a couple of months ago when she was trashing Hillary.

–very insecure people try to act superior to others–if you are sure of yourself and your position you should be able to treat people with different views in a civil way–I honestly do not know why the democrats have to imply they are smarter than people who don’t think like they do–I remember they kept implying Kerry was so much brighter than Bush then it turned out Bush’s scores were all higher than Kerry’s –one thing McCain and Palin do not lack is IQ and more importantly they are ethical–

–it is wrong to stereotype of course–but often journalists are people who barely got through school (you can see it in some of the economics articles and in how they have no sense of inductive reasoning or logic)

–Palin’s accomplishments are truly AMAZING–instead of attacking her for only being Governor for 2 years THE REAL QUESTION should be how did she accomplish SO much in such a SHORT time—I love Alaska for that reason–a person with no connections or money or ivy league education can still make it and keep her integrity—she is a classic american tale–from rags to riches entirely on her own steely determination–

Dowd is passé (and probably a little green with envy over palin)–a fancy vocabulary doesn’t make you a good person–being a good person makes you a good person—that was why McCain speech was so powerful–the media didn’t get what the average person at home received–this very basic talking man connected with millions because his speech patterns were so ordinary people really listen to what he was saying–and what he was saying reminded people of basic hallmark american qualities–like the ones he listed at the end of the speech–and his speech was actually similar to palin’s in one very important way –GENUINE–through and through is what came across—these media people are making true fools of themselves

Stupidity is the mothers milk of the political class. They depend on the stupidity of the electorate to get re-elected. If we had a truly informed electorate, we would not be in the mess we are in today. Leading the charge to stupefy the masses even more are the media, educators, Fanatics of all stripes and the bureaucrats who depend on having stupid people to serve.

This is what concerns me: What if these newspapers are reporting the truth? After all the lies and half-truths they’ve published before this, how are we suppose to trust that they are now telling the truth? Perhaps they should be reminded of the Boy Who Cried Wolf.

What if what they are reporting is true, and it came from them furiously digging into this woman’s background with a fine toothed comb. NOONE is perfect. And yet, they’ve found NOTHING on Obama in over a year. Because we know they aren’t even pretending to comb. I just don’t know what to believe anymore, but I’m sure not relying on the Times and the like.

As a biomedical professional, my experience is you can always tell when the scalpel reaches a nerve axon.

Liberal squeal is the conservative bullseye. Listen forrrrrrr it!
