Remember Barack Obama’s famous trip to Iraq and Europe over the summer? As if anyone could forget, we heard so much about it. What we didn’t hear, was, according to the New York Post, Barack Obama met with Iraqi leaders and tried to persuade them to delay any agreement on a US troop withdrawal.
According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.
“He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington,” Zebari said in an interview.
Obama insisted that Congress should be involved in negotiations on the status of US troops – and that it was in the interests of both sides not to have an agreement negotiated by the Bush administration in its “state of weakness and political confusion.”
According to the report, he also tried to persuade General David Petraeus to suggest a “realistic withdrawal date” and that his request was denied.
Obama has consistently been calling for withdrawal of US troops from Iraq and then, according to this report, he goes to Iraq and tries to stall any agreement. Talk about putting politics over country.
As pointed out by CKA at American Sentinel, Obama could be in violation of the Logan Act which states it is a crime for a citizen to confer with foreign governments against the interests of the United States or to negotiate with other nations on behalf of the United States without authorization.
I checked CNN.com and this story was not on their front page, nor was it on their politics page. I also checked MSNBC, ABC News and CBS News. Sure enough, none of them have the story. They all had negative stories about sarah Palin and Tina Fey was all over the place. The only major media outlet I could find carrying the story was Fox News, who is reporting that Obama denies the report.
Apparently, this is just one more story about Barack Obama the media will ignore while they dig through every aspect of Sarah Palin’s life.
