During the 9/11 Presidential forum Barack Obama was asked about Sarah Palin’s comments about his service as a community organizer. He said he became a community organizer to help people help themselves. He didn’t mention that he quit that job because he wasn’t able to make much of an impact (from his website).
When asked about the belittling of Sarah Palin’s experience as a mayor he said mayors are very important because they “fill potholes, trim trees and make sure the garbage is taken out.” At first I thought “Mayors do a lot more than that.” When I looked back at the TV I remembered the date. He said these words in New York City on the anniversary of 9/11.
Despite your political beliefs, Mayor Giuliani did much more on 9/11/01 than fill potholes, trim trees and take out the garbage! I believe the people of New York would disagree with Senator Obama’s view of the duties of mayors.

I saw the McCain interview and then went to the patio for homemade ice cream with our friend visiting from Denver – so missed Obama. I hope to catch the replay of this. I cannot image that Obama said such a thing.
I love your format here also. Jeremy does a terrific job.

Thanks Maggie. I missed most of McCain (kids) but caught Obama. I didn’t even delve into his Marxist plans. Good grief!

I didn’t hear any of this yet I’m not at all surprised. Seriously though, what is wrong with this guy?
Thanks, Maggie.

Even if one accepts Obama’s description of a mayor, it is still more than what he did. In fact, I wonder if Obama has ever filled a pot-hole, trimmed a tree, or taken out the garbage. We do know that he filled his own hole with a lot of pot though. He said in his autobiography that he spent his entire high school senior year in a stoned daze.

–you caught that heh…I’m from the west coast and that is the usual passive aggressive way of making a negative point after you make a point that sounds complimentary in a pleasant tone of voice…the major meets the bottom line (something his highness has never done never) and he also failed to mention that not all majors of small times go from that clear cut job where the buck stops with you and you are accountable to real people…to becoming Governor under unusually difficult circumstances standing up to all sorts of people (something obama has never done) with no wealthy well placed family or husband or expensive education to support her…oh she has only been governor for less than two years–YUP and she got more done in 2 years than most governors do in a life time–so maybe just maybe a woman who can go from the PTA to major to Governor can also go to VP and P….
..I saw a clip of the interview..of course journalist never really want to hear your answer…they have a place they want you to go where you come across like a this or a that and they then come across as the best journalist ever…and when she gave her Abe answer he still thought he could corner her…when she glided right past the full body check he was trying to throw…you could see in his body language that he was very disappointed…it made me laugh out loud….what the left doesn’t get is that if you are telling the truth and hold a 3 dimensional position on important issues then you don’t have to be the best rehearsed magician on the block..to appear convincing and consistent (they only see the “appear” part and they feel they have been out performed in casting an image and appearing inspirational and likable) …she did seem a bit tense…but that will just ingratiate her more with the public who see her as like them but with a lot more energy and a mission…it is a very small point but usually they use camera lights to try to make the person look “better” …a little younger…they soften the lines on the face…make the complexion look a little better…I think they used lighting to make her look more severe…I could be wrong and it is a small point of course

Giuliani’s greatest accomplishment other than his leadership post 9/11 was ridding NYC of the dreaded squeegee dirtbags who smeared your windshild with dirty rags and demanded cash in return for this “service.” Also, the mayor had all the potholes filled. In fact on weekends he would man a truck himself and fill holes from dawn to dusk.
Never once did the Mayor cut the tip of his finger off causing friends to go to work instead of play golf.
Make sure he takes care of it and lets it heal properly. Force him to go to the Doctor and if he needs to take time off make him do it.

Moose and Jose, your comments should start showing up now as soon as you post.
Jose, it’s just the nail and a little bone, the finger tip is intact. Doc said he’ll be a-okay! And the Philly boy told me to tell you to get to work.

Wow, this has got to be the most mis-leading framing of a quote that I have seen in a long time. You don’t mention that just before he listed off these menial tasks that he also said that he had great respect for mayors, because they are “where the rubber meets the road” and have to complete the day to day work of government, while Senators “just yack.”
Google “Obama on Mayors” and the majority of hits relate to Obama’s extensive work with Mayors. Would somebody who demeans the work they do really take the time to work with them?

P.S. Mayor Giuliani may have provided a strong, decisive voice following 9/11, but he also failed first-responders in a variety of ways. See this article for more details:
