The Democratic National Convention was long on style. They had all the props. Barack Obama conveyed the image of a leader. The cameras zoomed in on the many crying eyes in the audience. Yes, it was pretty. Unfortunately, it was woefully short on substance. We heard one tired liberal speech after another, the same speeches we’ve been hearing for decades.
On Monday the Republicans cancelled the speeches in respect for the victims of Hurricane Gustav. On Tuesday President and Laura Bush, Fred Thompson and Joe Lieberman were able to talk about the accomplishments of Senator John McCain. They didn’t just tell us he would be a good leader, they told us why he would be a good leader.
Fred Thompson delivered a moving account of John McCain’s service to our country and the horror he went through as a POW of the Vietnemese. When Republicans talk about character they actually back it up with specific examples. Senator Thompson also highlighted the authentic accomplishments of Governor Palin.
Senator Joe Lieberman came out and said we’re all Americans first. Party comes second. He too, was able to back up his comments with specific examples of how John McCain is far more qualified to be the next President of the United States of America than Barack Obama.
Joe Lieberman said it best when he said “Eloquence is no substitute for a record.”

I agree. It had good substance but the first thing I hear on NPR this morning are all these women that they (the media) lined up to trash Palin. The women they interviewed claimed to be intelligent but they instantly nullified that statement while stating their reasons why Palin wasn’t a good pick. They were snickering and giggling which is the first sign of the lack of something intelligent to say. Kind of like saying Um all the time. It makes you sound like a morron. Must have been some Ozombies they found aimlessly wondering the streets. Like I say. The Dems have the media by the balls.

I have been a democrat all my life, though I have at times voted for republican candidiates (Rudy Giuliani for mayor of New York for example). Rather than substance vs. style, I believe that Barack Obama gave one of the clearest descriptions of the difference between democrats and republicans when he said of John McCain in his acceptance speech, “For over two decades, he’s subscribed to that old, discredited Republican philosophy – give more and more to those with the most and hope that prosperity trickles down to everyone else. In Washington, they call this the Ownership Society, but what it really means is – you’re on your own. Out of work? Tough luck. No health care? The market will fix it. Born into poverty? Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps – even if you don’t have boots. You’re on your own.” That, for me, is the essence of why I have always been a democrat, and why I will vote for barack Obama in the upcoming election.

One thing for sure, Democrats may have style, but they have no class. Look on farther that the DNC Henchman going after Sarah Palin….they(Liberals) are the scum of the earth.

Frank, If you want a handout, move to a Socialist country. I’ve paid for my gas with change, sold my stuff to pay the rent, worked 3 jobs at once and skipped meals so I know what it’s like to get by on very little. Instead of throwing in the towel and looked for a welfare handout, I furthered my education and found one job. I didn’t have boots only a pair of old sneakers. Now I own a pair of Bostonians, boots and sneakers. All while pulling myself up, I’m a volunteer firefighter as well but I suppose that would be the only thing you like about me. I’m a free service to you.
