Isn’t it amazing how much better Sarah Palin came across in her interview with Sean Hannity? He asked her tough questions, but in a much more humble manner than Charlie Gibson. Hannity didn’t need to glare down his nose at her, like a stern school-marm.
Her answers were aired in full (at least it seemed that way) without editing. She did well and came off much more relaxed, as she was allowed to articulate her ideas and qualifications. Hannity brought up what her critics are saying and allowed her to answer without rude interruptions.
Last night she talked about a “government on behalf of the people.” If that weren’t good enough, tonight she mentioned American exceptionalism. How often do we hear that from politicians anymore? Aren’t we all just citizens of the world?
I have been feeling pretty miserable lately, with all of the bad news coming out of Wall Street and everyone pointing fingers (myself included). It was absolutely refreshing to hear those two words annunciated so naturally “American exceptionalism.” I believe Sarah Palin is a perfect example of that ideal.

I look at at all of the ones running for office. I look up their record . I don’t depend on the media to tell me what they are about.
I am a Indp, I voted for Mrs Clinton, but I will be voting for McCain! Gov. Palin has more in common with the American people.
Maybe because Gibson came off like a big fat SNOB………
Mr Hannity was nice but tough on her . Which is what I want .
The media is trying like always to do the electing for us, like we are dumb, and can’t
read for our selfs. How I would wish all of them would just back off! This is a country for the people by the people ! NOT A FEW WITH A MIKE IN THEIR HAND LET US DECIDE !
McCain and Pailin you have my vote so far ..

–RIGHT ON—for people willing to be objective palin actually came off well in the Gibson interview–she came off as the definition of genuine–even her nervousness was totally genuine(I read a feminist’s review who actually admitted she must have a backbone made of titanium to have gotten though that interview)—the left types that wanted to see her negatively were going to no matter how that interview was conducted–I know that crowd well and while they were looking for reasons to cut her to shreds they were also begrudgingly impressed by her sheer guts–they would have also really resented the fact that she looks so young and is not attractive but remarkably beautiful(they honestly put that much importance on image and want the right to come across as total nerds who don’t get it)–more than ever I am SURE that whenever Palin McCain and others in their camp can have direct contact with the public at home it will translate into votes—THAT is why the Obama camp is accusing them of lying etc–not because they can give a bleep about the truth–but because their gods the polls show that people see mccain and palin as honest and trustworthy (like when they tried to put a dent in mccain’s military service image because they discovered the public considers it a plus)–it is all strategy with them—I caught 2 min of McCain’s economics advisor (I think) a perky woman—I wish they could get her more time on TV–she summarized complex economic issues in fairly understandable vocabularly–criticized obama’s economics and how much money he is spending to tell the public stuff that isn’t accurate without coming across as mean or even subjective—Even she came across as Genuine as can be–the McCain camp has to focus on the economy(obama is truly out to lunch on that topic as is Biden) in a way that makes sense to folks at home –AND they have to keep hammering on issues like TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY on Wall Street and in WA –if you give people a decent chance they are going to figure out that the problems are complex as heck–but that McCain Palin will without a doubt do a better job of dealing with them and anything else that comes up than Obama Biden Pelosi Reid—even people who are strongly pro abortion and attracted to government healthcare etc should vote mccain to avoid the gruesome 4 some from running the country—America does have a very difficult role–I am in Europe for a while longer–and it is fashionable to attack America and love obama –yet the second there is bad economic news from the States they panic and hope like heck things will settle down there because they know very very well their socialist countries need the American economy to be STRONG and not socialist–it is part of the price of exceptionalism—in this regard obama truly has no leadership tendencies at all..he embodies the left fantasies about themselves as superior cool and with it–they call it the “illness of affluence” over here in Europe–where as western countries have become affluent they have gone on this trip of contradicting traditional values that ironically provide for the affluence—they just define themselves by contradicting the “right” and that includes questioning the concept of exceptionalism –they tell us we have to “apologize”for ourselves to the world (then in private they snicker and sneer at the nerds on the right that they clearly feel superior too)–Palin represents the opposite of THEM and is more attractive and more confident in a very sincere way, than they are–so the HATE her–it is hard to recall a more blatant example of TOTAL INTOLERANCE than the treatment they reserve for her–and obama claimed he wanted to go back to a time when americans were kinder (yet he never disowns all those who attack palin)–sure just like he wants to focus on the issues but then he intentional takes mccain quotes out of context lies in ads to hispanics and refuses to meet with mccain on the trail

Do you people realize she’s running for VP, not president? If history’s any judge her name is destined to end up as a Trivial Pursuit question.

I’ve always voted democrat, am pro choice & consider myself a centrist with a conservative lean. The choice of Governor Palin made me take a second look at Senator McCain’s positions & record and I will vote for him. HER sincerity, authenticity, and performance as governor serving the people of Alaska helped me make up my mind. I hope she can stick it out through these unfair attacks, intense & unfair scrutinies because I think she’ll make a fine VP and can truly lend a hand in strengthening the nation’s energy independence. Thanks to Hannity for giving her the respect & courtesy she deserves.

The shame of the “American Exceptionalism” statement when it’s made by a Republican is that in many corners of our country where Liberalism has run wild and education has faltered (Chicago for example has probably the weakest public education system in the Nation and it’s as “blue” a region as can be found anywhere) is that it’s misread as “America is BETTER”.
That’s not what exceptional(ism) means. Exceptional means “different”. Depending on your context it can mean “better”. However, I think when Republicans and pundits speak of Amercican Exeptionalism, they’re really speaking to one of the greatest contrasts in the history of humanity.
America relative to our size has (and has had) unbelievable advantages in resources, security (oceans on the east and west and it’s doubtful that Canada or Mexico are going to attack us), wealth and since the end of WWII military power.
While the rest of the world has to worry about basic and fundamental issues (national security, political upheaval, adequate food, adequate energy and resources) in some form or another, America has not only the bulk of what we need within our boundaries, but the strength to defend it against any current or potential threat and the wealth to buy whatever we want/need from other sources if it’s too expensive or inconvienant to produce it here.
The last part of that statement is critical to the argument of “American Exceptionalism”. When I read paranoid rants from the Left and from foreign sources that America is “Imperialist” I literally have to laugh. America (and I challenge anyone to find a MAJOR power in the history of humanity that has acted similarly) has had the ability for quite a while to “take” whatever we want from whoever we want, whenever we want. All societies previous to the “Great Experiment” here in America were (and most still are) in a constant state of trying to build enough military and industrial power to exert their will over other nations that had something they “wanted” such as land, resources or access to technology.
If America decided we wanted 40 cent a gallon gasoline, we could simply invade Canada and Mexico, they have all the oil we’d ever need. There would be no reason for us to even bother with the Middle East. Yet, we don’t do that. We’ve never done anything LIKE that since we became a “Superpower”. I doubt the Canadian and Mexican governments stay up at night worried that we’ll come storming across the borders to take their resources. The mere idea is absurd.
And that’s what makes us “exceptional”. We haven’t fought a war on our own soil since 1865 (and that was against ourselves), yet we’ve spent TRILLIONS (in adjusted dollars) of our national treasure and oceans of blood to DEFEND and/or Liberate other societies.
We haven’t always been “right”, we’re certainly not perfect, but I challenge any objective person to challenge the fact that a nation so strong, so wealthy, so secure within it’s own borders has ever existed before without giving in to the temptation to “take” rather than buy what it wants and needs and has so consistently stepped forward and said “YOUR freedom is as important as ours and we believe that enough that we will FIGHT to protect YOUR freedom.”
We have to be the only nation on Earth that would leave several trillion dollars worth of oil untouched because drilling for it might put some “ugly” oil platforms “too close” to our beaches. That kind of thinking (and the wealth and power it represents) has to drive the rest of the world completely nuts. They have no frame of reference for that kind of thought process and what people don’t understand scares them. So we are “exceptional” in the fact that there has never before been and there is unlikely to be in the future any country quite like the United States.
