Last week, I believe it was Wednesday, Good Morning America interviewed a Hurricane Gustav evacuee. My heart went out to all of the evacuees. The living conditions in the shelter were less than desirable and I hoped they would all return to their homes quickly.
Then when I heard what this man said I got angry. He told the reporter “They had three years to prepare for us.” He was very upset and felt they should have had better accommodations. I thought “You, sir, had three years to prepare for this!” What did he do to prepare, other than hop a bus paid for by his fellow citizens? He appeared to be a strong, healthy man.
Where did he think he was, a Holiday Inn Express? Couldn’t he have saved a few dollars a week for three years to pay for a suitable hotel room in the event he would have to evacuate for a hurricane? Did he expect his fellow citizens to build a dormitory or hotel to house evacuees, just in case?
He received a free ticket out of harms way and a roof over his head. What more does he want? Didn’t his parents ever teach him that you get what you pay for?

A friend who lives in Nashville, where some of the reugees were sent told that they are carping about everything. There aren’t enough pillows; food is not hot enough; not enough toys for their little snots, etc, etc. No thanks for saving their sorry butts from disaster. They’re enough to make you puke. Ny the way did you notice how much better George Bush became since Jindal became Gov. of La?

A competent governor seems to make everyone look better, even an incompetent mayor.
