Barack Obama throws the press under the bus

One would think Barack Obama would treat reporters like kings, they are his biggest supporters. According to Dean Reynolds at CBS News, the Obama campaign treats the press quite shabbily, while the McCain campaign is much friendlier and more accommodating to the press.

The Obama campaign doesn’t give reporters itineraries, leaves them idling for hours in vehicles (how is that good for the environment?) and Obama’s aides are often unprepared and un-informed.

The McCain campaign plane is better than Obama’s, which is cramped, uncomfortable and smells terrible most of the time. Somehow the McCain folks manage to keep their charter clean, even where the press is seated.

The other day in Albuquerque, N.M., the reporters were given almost no time to file their reports after McCain spoke. It was an important, aggressive speech, lambasting Obama’s past associations. When we asked for more time to write up his remarks and prepare our reports, the campaign readily agreed to it. They understood.

Similar requests are often denied or ignored by the Obama campaign aides, apparently terrified that the candidate may have to wait 20 minutes to allow reporters to chronicle what he’s just said. It’s made all the more maddening when we are rushed to our buses only to sit and wait for 30 minutes or more because nobody seems to know when Obama is actually on the move. Read full story.

If this is how Barack Obama treats his friends, how do you think he’ll treat the rest of us? And don’t forget, this is the candidate who cites his experience running a campaign as a credential for the Presidency. If they can’t even keep the plane clean, how are they going to run the White House?

On CNN tonight, the Lou Dobbs program, the reporter covering this story noted in addition to the shabby treatment from Obama that McCain takes very good care of the media.

I guess it’s the neutrality of those reporters that enables them to not play favorites for McCain. ;-)

This is kind of alarming. No matter how grand a person is, his or her personal space reflects his personality. This is a wakeup call for the Obama camp.

I’m a bit of a neat freak myself, so I felt the same way you do, Joy. It has to be pretty bad if it smells. The first word to pop into my head when I read the story was “sloth”.

Christmasghost, I’m also in California. It’s great to see another McCain supporter in this blue state! I see so many Obama bumper stickers around here, and I feel like rear-ending every car I see with an Obama sticker! Anyway, it’s pathetic and pretty obvious that Obama has no concept of treating other human beings with respect. He has no respect for the press, no respect for his campaign staff, obviously, if they even know where he is. That just says it loud and clear that Barack Obama is all about Barack Obama. He has no intentions of doing anything for this country. He’s not running for president for the sake of this country. He’s running for president because Barack Obama has a pathological need to make Barack Obama feel better about himself.

Hilarious column, hilarious responses. I’m impressed by all the sudden solicitude for the “MSM,” and by sad old Dean Reynolds who’s just realized that the internet has wiped out his world. And then these conservatives who cannot for the life of them visualize a black man without automatically placing him in the janitorial role. Shott huffs with indignation at a world where sucking up just doesn’t work like it used to. Joy thinks a campaign jet is a presidential candidate’s “personal space” and wonders why Obama isn’t setting out coasters and putting blue disinfectant in the toilets. LC turns up her nose at this uppity Obama fellow who just doesn’t seem to know that he’s really a Pullman porter. And SC is just in tears. No respect! Hey SC, don’t let anyone stop you. Go and rear end every car with an Obama sticker. Show us what respect — and self control — is all about.

I love coming here. You guys are the best. By the way, can anyone guess the reason why McCain has so much time to pick up the gum wrappers and keep everyone’s drinks refreshed?

    Andrew,

You can’t honestly believe that commenting on the lack of cleanliness in the Obamaplane is somehow a racist comment. Come on, do you really believe I think Barack Obama should be cleaning his own plane? Your charges of racism are laughable.

I was pointing out a lack of organization. It’s no secret that Obama’s raised an enormous sum for his campaign. Are you telling me they can’t pay someone $15 an hour to clean and airplane? Are you telling me they can’t hire an administrative assistant to print out their itinerary? My gosh, with all of his adoring fans he could probably find a few volunteers to help out.

Barack Obama is asking us to hire him to be our next President and Commander in Chief. How are we supposed to trust him with that role if he and his campaign can’t see to it that their campaign operation runs smoothly?

    REYNOLDS

    “…shabby treatment FROM OBAMA…”
    SHOT

“… his or her personal space reflects HIS PERSONALITY…”
    JOY

“OBAMA HAS no concept of treating other human beings with respect. HE has no respect for the press, no respect for his campaign staff, obviously, if they even know where HE is.
    SC

“…OBAMA HAS no concept of treating other human beings with respect. HE HAS no respect for the press, no respect for his campaign staff, obviously, if they even know where he is…”

    LC,

Let’s be clear. The word racist doesn’t appear in my comment for a good reason. I don’t think my fellow commentators are racist. But I think it’s possible, from what I’ve read here, that certain classifications leap to some of their minds, probably unintentionally. I’ve never liked the way feminists label any comment from a man as “misogynist” if the man’s tone is anything less than deadly serious or insufficiently laudatory. Note in particular that I didn’t include you in my comments. It seems to me that those classifications don’t not leap to your mind.

Now, you say you’re pointing out the lack of cleanliness in the Obamaplane, but I copied and inserted exact quotes from the others because, Reynolds, Shott, Joy and SC instantly make Obama himself — not his staff, as the villian. I’ve put the key words in all caps. I think this deserves some pointing out itself.

As for Reynold’s comments, I haven’t seen any other stories about the Greyhoundish condition of Oba One. Maybe somebody forgot to top off Reynold’s drink or brush down his suit coat or something. I don’t see any reason to take his observations as hard fact until I see it verified by some other journos.

    Cheers,
    A
