Biden’s Fourteen Fabrications

There’s nothing more annyoing than a person who is asking you for something, in the case of Joe Biden-my vote, while blatantly lying. I wasn’t counting, but during the debate last night I kept saying “He’s lying!”

John McCain’s campaign was counting and put together a list of Joe Biden’s biggest lies.

1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”

4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.

9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.

12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

Two other areas of blatant fiction on Biden’s part.

We sat and watched the smooth senatorial delivery of out and out falsehoods and read about them the next day. Democrats and Republicans alike either defended the “misrepresentations” or excused them as gaffes but we missed completely the point. We failed to recognize the ease at which we accepted these blatant distortions at face value and dismissed the facts when they were reported the next day. We failed to question our own lack of knowledge which led us to believe at the time Biden spoke that he was accurate. We trusted him because of what he was; a senior senator couldn’t possibly make these mistakes.

What is downright worrisome to me is what is not being reported, noticed, or discussed, and it centers on Senator Biden’s invention of facts. My angst is not due to partisan leanings or even Joe Biden the man and his suitability for office. It has to do with what we, all Americans, are not talking about. How is it that a Senator of almost 36 years could say the things he did and get away with it. How could the American people believe the rhetoric or ignore it or make fun of it and not realize what it means.

What about the rest of the Congress that did much less this week than endear themselves to the people in America. Shouldn’t we be questioning every member of that body? Isn’t the real reason we are unhappy with government is they are not looking out for our best interests? And isn’t that really due to our laxity in demanding their performance. If we are willing to let Senator Biden lie to us and shrug it off as, “That’s just Joe being Joe.” aren’t we saying it’s OK for our highest elected officials to lie to the American People? Don’t we bear the responsibility to know when they are lying and call them to account?

I think members of Congress should be subjected to a yearly performance evaluation.

I’d be satisfied with term limits.

But we know they aren’t about to impose term limits on themselves. I believe we need another Constitutional convention.

There’s nothing more annoying than people who try to expose someone else’s lies by telling more lies themselves. The first lie is that Biden is asking for your vote. Senator Biden, unlike Sarah, knows that he is just the running mate and he knows perfectly well that he’s not going to win over any Republican reactionaries. Which is good since it frees him up to puncture their own lies. I can’t tell whether this list was garbled by the McCain squad or whether it was garbled by the genius who tried to post it here, but it’s a mess. In any case, fourteen isn’t much compared to McCain’s entire campaign-full of misleading and mendacious trickery. As for Allen Wilson’s and Lonely’s desire for term limits — we already have them. They’re called votes. But of course reactionaries, with their endless paranoia, don’t believe democrats can be voted out. Even when democrats lose their seays, the reactionaries still think they’re being hoodwinked.
