The following conversation took place between four people.
#1-Barack Obama wants to require girls to register with the Selective Service. If the draft is ever re-instituted your daughters could be forced to do battle.
#2-That’s awful.
#3-Did you support the Iraq war?
#1-Huh?
#3-Did you support the Iraq war?
#1-Yes, but what’s that got to do with it?
#2-Some girls are tough enough for military service, but a lot of girls are really prissy. Can you imagine that?
#4-A lot of boys are prissy, too.
#1-Walked away.
I was #1.
The conversation took place at work so I didn’t want to waste any more time on the subject. Otherwise I would have explained to #3 that by the time her daughter reaches the age to register the Iraq war will probably be over.
I also would have explained that we have enemies in this world. There is certainly no way of knowing when or if those enemies will act on their desire to see us wiped off the map.
Russia has sent warships to Venezuela. Iran would love nothing more than to detonate a few nuclear bombs over our heads.
Our enemies don’t stop hating us when we elect Demcrats. Bay of Pigs – Kennedy. Iran hostage crisis – Carter. Planning of 9/11-Clinton. I could go on.
It seems the media has done a fine job of conditioning many Americans. George Bush is bad. The Iraq war is bad. John McCain was for the Iraq war. John McCain is George Bush and therefore bad.
Never mind the radical associations of Barack Obama. Never mind his promises of wealth redistribution. Never mind his pledge to force children to “volunteer.” Never mind his plan to tax Americans with the “Global Poverty Act.” Never mind the trilion dollars in new spending he’s proposed. Never mind the immorality of the notion of taking the earnings of another. Never mind that George Bush isn’t running!
Go ahead and pull that lever for Barack Obama based on blind faith. Just don’t come crying to me when you get what you wished for.
