Excellent. I challenge my conservative friends to read the books and passages Obama draws attention to and tell me what they think those scriptures mean. Some people say that most conservatives only feign righteousness and haven’t read or thought about the Bible except to exploit it for politics.

You’re not going to let the communistic, atheistic left-wing hordes get away with that are you?

Seriously, I say Obama’s questions are legitimate, and not mockery at all. I would like to hear genuine fundamentalist Christians on these points: should we have slavery? Should we use stoning to death as punishment for adulterers, rich tax evaders, and disrespectful children? Are our fundamentalists really ready to follow the Sermon on the Mount?

Let’s hear from some of those who point to the Bible as applauding their hatred of homosexuals, their condemnation of women who want to choose for themselves whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term. And, especially, lets hear from all those who ignore Christ’s message of compassion and love and say instead that Christ’s real message was one of damning judgement and consignment of erring humanity to hell.

    Time to testify.

Where’s the twice-born crowd? It’s time to testify.

I agree that Christians should be able to defend their faith and practices, but Obama, like many, accuse the Bible without understanding.

I guess I would need to have that explained. I’ve heard him on the Bible, and the passages he refers to in the attached sound bite are very difficult to interpret — but so are the passages some Christians point to as unambiguous assertions regarding homosexuality, ownership of slaves, conduct in war and other issues history has been dealing with ever since pre-Christian times. In addition, the fact that some criticize his attending services led by a controversial pastor, so that he is at once criticized as a Christian, and then as a mocker of Christianity.
