Michael Steel Should Chair the RNC
ByThe latest rumor I’ve heard is that Michael Steele will be running to chair the Republican National Committee and that Newt Gingrich doesn’t want the position. I heard Gingrich is thinking about throwing his support behind Steele.
Steele reflects on the state of the Republican Party in Listen. Adapt. Be Positive. He makes some good points. Conservativism didn’t lose this election, Republicans did. We need new leadership and a positive message.
Things were different as recently as 20 years ago. Back then, Ronald Reagan made it cool to be a Republican — it wasn’t just his specific policies, but the timeless truths he so eloquently gave voice to, and upon which his policies were based. That’s the Republican Party we must re-establish.
We must articulate a positive vision for America’s future that speaks to Americans’ hopes, concerns and needs. It’s time to stop defining ourselves by what we are not, and tell voters what we believe, how we’ll lead, and where we’ll go; how we Republicans will make America better; how we’ll make their families more prosperous, their children better educated, their parents more secure, and all of us healthier, safer and stronger.
Our challenge lies not in beating Democrats, but in uniting around a message that solidifies our ranks and attracts new people to our cause. We have to listen to what Americans are telling us about their hopes, desires and needs, and then translate that message into proposals for meaningful action squarely grounded on the values we Republicans have always stood for.
Our faith in the power and ingenuity of the individual to build a nation through hard work, personal responsibility and self-discipline is our uniting principle. That is the sacred ground upon which our Republican Party was built. For the sake of all Americans, it is the ground we must reclaim. Read full article.
Steele is a good communicator and he’s still relatively young. The Republican Party needs a leader and if Michael Steele is willing to do it I think the GOP would be wise to take him up on his offer.

We could sure use some new blood. The folks running things now might just as well be in a coma.
I concur. I have been looking at him since his name came up and like what I’m seeing. Our party just didn’t understand what they were seeing in the Obama mania machine, and didn’t understand how to effectively respond. I hate to say it, but I think they were “chronologically challenged” if you know what I mean.
hey, do you know if you take McCain’s vote, third party votes, and all the people who didn’t bother to vote at all that means that 141.9 million Americans DID NOT vote for Milli Vanilli?? A cheerful thought!
Hardly a mandate, I would say.
Steele is NOT a conservative. His rhetoric means nothing when he supports Roe v. Wade, affirmative action, is against the death penalty, and ask the question, “What do you need an assault weapon for if you”re going hunting”? Is that the best we can do?
I’ve followed him for a while, and haven’t heard any of that!
Do a Google search or go to http://www.ontheissues.org. If you look you can listen to the interview in which he shows his complete ignorance of the purpose of the second amendment.
Q: Should people have access to buy assault weapons?
Steele: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you’re going hunting? That’s overkill. But I don’t think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that.
.
Whoever–we’d better find him/her/them pretty quickly and start getting it in gear now. Not just sitting here waiting to find our own Messiah. We need to take control of our party and bring it into the 21st century.
And first we have to quit buying into the idea that Obama was a landslide (it wasn’t) and the ‘youth’ vote was so enormous (it wasn’t). And that the entire country is Marxist (142 million are not, apparently). A series of unfortunate events and some serious strategy and tactics just blew the Republicans out, and we need someone who is going to look at this more like war and less like a football game.
Recommend someone else and I’ll be happy to look. But I’m not going to try to give anyone a list of issues and say ‘you have to believe just like me or you’re not the guy’. Even in our own party, we’re going to have a different idea of what an “individual right” is. And support some things (Roe v. Wade) and not others (affirmative action, total gun control–but really, Eddie, whaddya need an assault rifle for??)
If you see good names, toss them out there so we can look at them. I’m sure ready to start for 2012. Yup. On board for that. You betcha!
Obama won because a majority of the American people, even conservatives, are generally ignorant about what makes this country great and don’t know how to think. This causes them to be impressed by empty rhetoric when they should be appalled. The purpose of the second amendment is to allow the people to defend themselves against government tyranny. It’s a doomsday option. See the quote below. Do you think founders risked their lives to guarantee future generations the right to hunt? And, not that it matters, so called assault rifles are relatively underpowered compared to hunting rifles.
I can easily accept someone who doesn’t agree with me on every issue. But if Steele doesn’t doesn’t understand something as basic as this, in addition to his beliefs on the other issues I noted, he’s not fit to serve.
Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive.
—Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution (Philadelphia 1787).
Why haven’t we heard Duncan Hunter’s name as an option?
How about Ron Paul! That should shake things up!

Steele is NOT a conservative. We do not need more smooth-talking RINOs! He would continue to lead the Republican party to it’s death. Ken Blackwell is a much better choice.
“What do you need an assault weapon for if you”re going hunting” ????? We need more of THAT!?!? I think not.
The “Leaders” of the Republican Party have flipped thier lid. I am quite concerned with an elite Neo-Con agenda that strikes effectively at a heritage with virtual abandon. We are continually being forced to Vote for poor candidates every since R.W. Reagan. Even he gave amnesty to millions and claimed “Mission Accomplished”. Now where are we? Both political parties pander to all but the truly oppressed, whites. The MSM is more than “Glad” and laugh with utter glee, when reporting the declining population of European peoples. The magnitude of loss from self rule will become intolerable. My family arrived here and fought to make this a nation. Scores of my ancestors paid with blood in almost every war. My family has never owned slaves and Jefferson transcended my name sake’s ideas for the Decleration of Indepence. I have a “family” investment in the future of my country and freedom for my children. Does the party really think that the ploy of M. Steele will work? This is a disgracefull choice.Reagan was right, we don’t have a revitalized party, time for a third!.

I AM INSULTED AND ANGRY ABOUT YOUR RECENT “POLL” which was sent to me!!!
My first reaction was “great, they really do care what I think” THEN at the end, I could not let my opinion be known UNLESS I PAID YOU!!! What an insult by a group who is “dising” the administration. ” Pot calling the kettle…”- SHAME ON YOU!
I am so angry about this I can hardly see straight – you just might loose me and my otherwise support!~!!
Don’t insult the hand that has fed and supported your party for years – through thick and thin!.
(PS I have been unemployed 10 months, am with the teens of the 60′s group who are now IN their 60′s! I have been a FIRM supporter in one way or another of the RNC and candidates since my very first vote in 1964! NOW YOU should be supporting ME, not insulting me!)

I’ve been getting those for years. I just throw them out. You could probably send it back with no money if you want.
