At least one sector of the US economy was booming this year. While the economic downturn has hit everything from Wall Street to Motor City, one big business has done quite well – politics.
John McCain and the Republicans spent about $550 million in the general election. Not bad when times are tough.
Barack Obama and the Democrats were the big winners, raising an estimated $847 million dollars. In fact, the Obama campaign raised so much money they couldn’t spend it all in time, so his staffers received bonuses of a whole month’s salary.
It wasn’t just the Presidential campaign that had money pouring in. Congressional Democrats received hundreds of millions of dollars from the UAW and US auto companies.
The unions and auto companies weren’t alone in their big contributions to Democrats. Wall Street was right there with them. It seems that everyone receiving or begging for taxpayer dollars today was mighty generous to the Dems over the past few months.
Now our elected officials are about to fork over billions more to people who earn far more money than the average taxpayer. If that’s not bad enough, those of us who would never send a dime to a Democrat will be sending billions to the companies that helped get those Democrats elected.
Talk about irony.

Poor Hillary didn’t do so well. She still owes $7 million and is scurrying to raise some money before she becomes Secretary of States – a position that does not allow fundraiser.
She has 3 options: (1) raise it now, (2) ask vendors to delay the charges until after she leaves the State office, or (3) file a kinda-sorta bankruptcy. Isn’t that just peachy? One of our highest offices and considering anything other than the first option should not a consideration.
Our politicians are so far out of line.
LC, your last comment – taxpayers sending money to companies who got the Dems elected – excellent and sad.

It is sad, isn’t it. We’ll have to wait and see about Hillary.

Maybe if the UAW used some of the millions it uses for political donations for its members’ health and retirement costs. Hold your breath for this.

Nancy (Iron Face) Pelosi, I believe takes a military jet home to SF. And she expects guys who keep people in jobs to ride a pogo stick to DC.
Am I correct or was it the liberals who spent us into this ($55Trillion) mess of UnFunded Mandates?
They spent our social security to keep their coalition happy, yes?
They forced banks to make loans to keep their coalition happy, yes?
They used taxpayer money to bail out companies such as AIG so they could keep the lobbyist money rolling in?
They used taxpayer money to bailout banks which they promised were solvent but had to go back again?
Now they are going to use taxpayer money to bailout their labor union buddies?
And then the messiah wants us all to pony up more money for his schemes?
After that is all done, they want to take our children into a Civil Security System to indoctrinate them?
Whew, am I crazy or are we just gluttons for punishment?
