The biggest story of the century

The Obamathon began early Tuesday morning and went on all day and night. Fearing some American, somewhere may have missed it, the morning news programs re-ran their favorite moments. I kept wondering how much news coverage President Bush’s inauguration generated.

President Barack Obama‘s inauguration generated an unprecedented 35,000 stories in the world’s major newspapers, television and radio broadcasts over the past day — about 35 times more than the last presidential swearing-in — a monitoring group said on Wednesday.

The Texas-based Global Language Monitor said there had also been 6 million new Obama-related mentions on the Internet since December 31.

By comparison, the last U.S. presidential inauguration, of George W. Bush in January 2005, resulted in about 1,000 stories in major media worldwide, Paul JJ Payack, president of Global Language Monitor said.

“The Obama numbers are unprecedented and speak volumes to the global fascination with the new American president, his wife and young family,” Payack told Reuters. “Obama is the biggest story of the century so far.” Read full story.

You sort of have to sympathize with the guy. The media has put him on the highest pedestal, they turned him into the biggest story of the century! No mortal can live up to the myth, especially one with so little experience.

Don’t count on the MSM changing their tune any time soon. They won’t ask tough questions and their coverage is sure to be slanted. They’ve so embarrassed themselves and damaged their credibility, they simply cannot allow Barack Obama to fail.

As much as I want an end to the hypnotic coverage of the Obama Inauguration and its aftermath, I did not expect there would be an end this soon.

In fact, we’d better gird our loins for the next few months, as the effusive coverage will likely continue.

I took a slight bit of satisfaction in the White House press corps negative reaction to Obama taking the Oath of Office a second time without the press present. Perhaps he will not be given a complete pass on what he does.

I need to amend my previous comment. The first report I heard about the second Oath of Office incorrectly said that the press was not present. The press was there, but TV cameras were not.

The point remains, however, that the press corps is unhappy with the way the administration handled this, and that is a good thing.

The higher the high, the bigger the fall. Pride goeth before the fall . . . ..
