Watching Gibbs give a press briefing is like watching a post debate spin room interview. The suggestion that was made today was that green jobs will come from tax incentives. The example was wind turbines with a reference to a recent visit by President Obama to a blade factory.
What is missing is the reality that has been absent from the early days of the campaign. Wind, biofuel, solar, and other more exotic green energy solutions rely heavily on project financing. Wind is almost 90% project financed. If there is no financing available due to banks not lending then the wind industry will stop. Checking major projects listed, one can see that some are being cancelled, others delayed, and new negotiations have stopped.
The alternative energy industry has collectively pressed the pause button. For the first time in my lifetime the demand for electricity is declining. The likelihood that Green jobs are going to grow in this environment is nil. Suggesting that his president is going to somehow create any significant numbers in this sector is at best naive.
This administration is demonstrating early on that the concerns many of us had were well founded. The lack of experience is not going to be compensated for by good intentions, lofty rhetoric, and hope. We all need to support the President and the Country but he’ll have to do his part by being realistic. Let’s get real.

Thanks, LC for getting into the Energy thing. Alternative Energy is one of my pets. Yes, I am all for it, No, the government can’t do it.
News release, obama promises to deliver 2 gigawatts of alternative energy in the next two years. News Flash, that was already in the pipeline to be delivered by the efforts from before.
Just as he promises to get the troops out in 16 months, that was on the board before he was elected.
The average person does not seem to get the information to make informed decisions, so we can count on Alternative Energy being touted as a big part of the future, when in reality, as you say, it’s on hold.
