Governor Paterson announced he will appoint Representative Kirsten Gillibrand to Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat.
What I’ve heard about Rep. Gillibrand this morning is positive and I’m cautiously optimistic. She’s a conservative Democrat with a 100% rating from the National Rifle Association! She was in favor of President Bush’s tax cuts and voted against the last bailout.
There’s no way to tell what she’ll do as a senator. Her congressional district is conservative and she had to answer to her district. Now that she’ll be a senator if she goes along with the liberal Democrats it won’t matter because she’ll receive positive press coverage and the rest of New Yorkers will vote for her simply because she has a D after her name.
My hope is that she really is a conservative Democrat and has the guts to vote her conscience and convictions, regardless of party. (She’s speaking now and is praising liberal Democrats……..that’s not good.)
Update: People may have jumped the gun calling Rep. Gillibrand a conservative. Her conservative rating doesn’t look much better than Obama’s. What is this, just another ploy into lulling the masses into thinking we are not marching towards communism?
