It’s one thing to blindly follow the masses, no matter where that leads you, if it leaves those of us who don’t want to follow behind. We could simply run in the other direction, away from the eventual peril the lemmings will meet.
Unfortunately, in our “democracy” some of us are running as fast as we can but the lemmings have us by our necks, pulling us with them against our will. Our government is about to borrow another trillion or so dollars without asking what will happen if it doesn’t work! The lemmings aren’t just pulling living Americans with them, but future generations who have no say in anything that happens today.
The lemmings wanted change, but did they get it? I suppose that depends on what the definition of change is. The lemmings wanted transparency in government, is this transparency? How about this? They wanted a new bipartisanship, but do they really want one party with no dissenting opinions or ideas? We were told Americans were tired of corruption and incompetence, not a combination of the two.
I really don’t believe most Americans want America to become a socialist or communist country. I really don’t think the American people voted for state sanctioned racism. I really don’t think the people voted to lessen our national security. I really don’t think the people voted for huge increases in their energy bills or for their hard earned tax dollars being used to fund abortions worldwide. Yet we’re about to get all of these things.
Some of us would prefer to simply tighten our belts and suffer through a recession, or even a depression, knowing that sooner or later the markets will correct. Compared to what we’re in store for, a depression sounds like fun!
I hope and pray I’m wrong. But the way things are shaping up it doesn’t look that way. Now we have to learn how to live with it all. Quite a few Americans still cherish freedom and believe an individual’s success or failure comes from within and not from the government. How are we to teach our children to live under the oppression of socialism?
It’s even scarier when you have a teeny inside loop; when you are privy to the things discussed between big money contributors and Rahm Emmanuel (no, I can’t prove this; yes, it’s scary as hell to hear it related by the Democrat who was so upset he repeated it to me, the only Republican in the room, when he returned that day!). These $$$ were told to abandon Hillary Clinton, that the Democrats MUST beat the Republicans to further their agenda, and The One was the way to make that happen, no matter what he was saying. Among a lot of extremely partisan comments (from the Team for Change and Hope, the Team for Inclusion and Kumbaya) was the statement “not to worry, we’re not going to do all those things he’s saying we’ll do”. Really? You mean all of the campaign stuff was a bald face lie to the nation? Or–and here’s a thought—was he lying to the $$$ that day? Was it really the lemmings they lied to? Who’s to know what is the lie and what is the truth? And the $$ Democrat who was so upset, but followed like a good little lemming and ponied up the money–is only now starting to wonder what Hope and Change MEAN. Only now questioning who is “us” and who is “them”. Only now starting to feel the panic that maybe he just voted for something that even HE didn’t want. Only now starting to realize that the canned music at the inauguration is a perfect metaphor for Obama, his team, and his plans: it’s not who you are, it’s how you look! And you look marvelous!
Only now starting to ask who this team is, what they believe in, what they intend to do to the nation in the next four (please, God, only) years. Only now realizing that he voted for and supported a gifted speaker—but not a leader. A man with “an incredibly nimble mind” who couldn’t punt and repeat the oath of office despite a single misplaced word. He’d have taken that Iraqi shoe in the face, I think; reflexes and instinct are wanting, so thrown by that minor misplace that he froze. Wow. Here we come, Iran….
Despite my great joy in knowing, and watching, that a good portion of the lemmings are about to stand in the street screaming “But I didn’t KNOW!”—I fear I’m going to get caught in the rush and taken over the cliff with them. Pummelling them with shoes all the way down.
And for the record, for me it’s all about philosophy–not party. I’m center right. But if Joe Lieberman was “the other side”, I would have voted for the man; despite our party disagreements, I have enormous respect for–and trust in–him on the issues that matter. This man, though….this man is a cipher that can be filled with anything or nothing. And they just parked him in the seat of the most powerful man in the world. Uneducated, lazy twits who couldn’t be bothered to find anything out on their own.
Well, that was a rant. But I feel better now

I refuse to be a lemming. I say we need to create a website that lists all the House and Senate seatholders (on both sides of the ‘aisle’) and post thier individual voting records on EVERY ISSUE that comes before them over the next several years. Let’s call it ” The Anti-Lemming League”. We could then do a massive nationwide bulk e-mail invitation to visit it and get the news out about who is doing what in Washington. Then a notice could be sent to every Senator and every representative, and every lobbyist group, that their doings are becoming common knowledge to the country. I do not trust this administration to provide transparency, nor do I trust them to provide help to the American people. And I especially do not trust them with my country’s basic tenets. All of conservatism needs a place to RALLY and get the information….succinctly and accurately…. that can be the groundforce for the next battle. EVERY SINGLE SEAT that has run it’s term needs to be SOUGHT OUT and WON OVER for conservatism. We need churches, homeschooling families, 4-H Groups, military families, social program recipients, small business organizations, chambers of commerce, Rotary clubs, Kiwanis groups, Lions International, EVERYBODY to be educated about what is happening to our Republican Democracy. I am not willing to wait until the enemy is entrenched and my soldiers become lemmings. Anyone care to help?

Mary has exactly the point: the Left learned decades ago how to make noise, when to make noise, and to just keep repeating a thing until you get what you want. Conservatives DO need a single rallying point, a place to make all that noise. As horrible as they are, the Left did learn all about guerilla politics and that beat us. We have GOT to learn to do the same things–none of this crap about a higher moral ground. If you love your own values, then you fight for them even when it’s ugly!
Maybe we start emailing Michael Steele. The GOP isn’t the oldwhiteman party any longer–everything has to change, and he’s the man to start with. Email him about making noise and being visible, using the technology, and finding that one place to gather ground forces. And HURRY, while Obama and his team are making all these hideous mistakes!
