President Obama mocked the genuine concerns of Republicans over the Economic Socialism Recovery Act, and Senator John McCain decided not to take this lying down. Click here for video. Politico reports Senator McCain blasted Obama.
“The whole point, Mr. President, is to enact tax cuts and spending measures that truly stimulate the economy,” McCain said. “There are billions and tens of billions of dollars in this bill which will have no effect within three, four, five or more years, or ever. Or ever.”
McCain didn’t stop there.
“$50 million in funding for the National Endowment for the Arts — all of us are for the arts,” McCain said. “Tell me how that creates any significant number of jobs? After-school snack program is probably a good idea. Do we really want to spend $726 million on it?”
He’s fired up. The best part was at the end of the video when McCain said “….we mortgage our children’s furutre, they’ve already got a two trillion dollar debt, this is another trillion!”
The best part is that President Obama was trying to woo Senator McCain over to his side and pursuade the Senator to cross the aisle. Which is why it seems so illogical for Mr. Obama to turn around and give a speech deriding Republicans for raising serious questions about this bill. If this is the President’s leadership style he’s in for a long four years. It should be interesting to watch.
