So much for reducing our dependence on foreign oil.
In a high-profile reversal of the Bush administration, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Wednesday the government is scrapping the lease of 77 parcels of federal land for oil and gas drilling in Utah’s redrock country.
As if scrapping plans to drill for oil and gas weren’t bad enough, they’re giving up revenue to the government.
The sales were worth $6 million to the government in addition to royalties on any oil or gas production.
So while the senate debates whether to spend anywhere from $400 billion to a trillion dollars of money they don’t have, the Interior Department blocks any new oil and gas drilling and gives up a revenue source. Brilliant!
Final question – how many jobs would have been created by opening up oil and gas exploration in Utah?
