During a Super Bowl pre-game interview with Matt Lauer, President Barack Obama said he was hurt because Us Weekly took him out of the cover photo. He went on to make fun of Jessica Simpson.
Lauer: You got replaced by Jessica Simpson.
Obama: Yeah, who’s in a weight battle apparently. (LAUGHTER) Yeah. Oh, well.
How rude is that? Can you imagine if any Republican had made such a comment? Oh, well. I guess today is a new day. A day where it’s perfectly acceptable for the President of the United States of America to belittle young women.
Update: When my husband heard about this he commented that even Joe Biden wouldn’t have made such a gaffe!

Bizzare. How many men watch the tabloids? Does the jr. admin. from IL have so much time on his hands that he can read them? Maybe michelle is actually running the country and he is in the oval office reading tabloids and looking in the mirror. Could be you know.

Too bad he doesn’t spend his time reading the Wall Street Journal. Too bad the media never asked him what papers he reads.

Lonely Conservative,
Saying that Obama was making fun of Simpson is an absurd claim. For anyone with some sense of humor whatsoever, it was clear that Lauer’s comment was to poke fun at the president (as in: Jessica Simpson is more newsworthy than the pres) in a light-hearted way. And Obama’s comment was obviously (to me, anyhow) in response to the (ridiculous, I’m sure) headlines about Simpson and not because he’s been keeping up with the latest hollywood muckraking. The whole entertainment reporting thing is absurd, not to mention you making any kind of issue out of it at all! Who the heck cares? Besides, W used to make silly and random comments and jokes all the time…the only problem there is that they made him look like an idiot. Not that he wasn’t…
The important thing is: why is this even being discussed when the US economy is in serious trouble? We need to hold our politicians accountable for their actions and make sure they have the citizen’s interests in mind when all these crazy ideas are being batted around about bailout money. I am not an economist but realize there is no “right answer” to this problem. I suggest a balanced group of economists to advise congress should be considered, but more of the same ridiculous over-spending in Washington (that has been out-of-control for the last 8 years or so) would be a mistake.
Remember when Republican meant conservation? I don’t. I’m only 30 years old and since then the only time our govn’t spending deficit (as a percent of GDP) hasn’t been out of control is during the end of the Clinton – Gingrich years. Not Reagan. Not HW. Not W. Clinton w/ a Rep congress. And the republicans in charge now are filthier than any other dem could be.
Listen up! Our government has had a deficit since the 1830s! Hello people, wake up to the reality that all politicians know how to do is spend money and too much of it. Dem or Rep it doesn’t matter. They are all the same. Please, our children’s future are been defined for them…

MJC, you said: “The important thing is: why is this even being discussed when the US economy is in serious trouble? We need to hold our politicians accountable for their actions and make sure they have the citizen’s interests in mind when all these crazy ideas are being batted around about bailout money.”
Good question! Why was Obama on the today show talking about a magazine cover and poking fun at Jessica Simpson’s weight?
Gingrich is a Republican.
You’re right, most politiicians spend way to much money. It seems they think that’s the only reason the sucker voters will vote for them.
Sad, isn’t it?
The goal of many conservatives is the kick the big-spending RINO’s out of the republican party and bring the party back to fiscal responsibility. The House R’s (and blue dog Dems) showed some gumption voting against the pork bill. It looks like Senate R’s and D’s didn’t get the message.

LC,
Yeah, I know Gingrich is Rep. I didn’t mean to infer that he wasn’t…
The point is that people have to get their point across to their elected officials that we need them to make at least somewhat educated decisions. Is that too much to ask?
Also, you say:
“Good question! Why was Obama on the today show talking about a magazine cover and poking fun at Jessica Simpson’s weight?”
Obama was not on the Today show to talk about Simpson and suggesting that was why he interviewed with them is inappropriately suggestive. Lauer brought it up, anyway. If you claim to be “ray of light,” then don’t go and act just like all the other media out there and cloud the real issues with your interpretation of things or how you want people to perceive things. Please.

MJC-Our elected officials don’t seem to listen to us. And lighten up! As a fellow taxpayer I have to get back to work now.

Bailout 2008,
Like a bloodied warrior,
laying broken and torn.
Like a dying soldier, hopeless and forlorn.
But the blood, it be green,
the color of money.
And the soldier is an economy,
and it is anything but funny.
Broken are it’s people and shattered are their dreams.
Thanks to the ultra rich and their full proof schemes.
It is a tragedy with more pain to come.
Finance will be Hell, and their wills will be done.

Oh man I did not know I have commented on this blog before. As I don’t remember ever registering. Meh oh well. I am going to be honest with you. This is stupid. He was not belittling her. As much as I can not stand him or his way of thinking I know he was not trying to be mean. He was just pointing out that they covered up his face in that disgusting picture of his family with Jessica Simpson’s fat ass. lol
But he said it a lot nicer. He was just pretty much reading the cover.

It depends on what context it was in to be honest.
it depends on how he used the apparently, was the apparently sarcastic as if to imply that she doesn’t really have a weight problem? and that was the story that got him off the cover…
