This guy is unbelievable.
And let me say this to all the chattering class. That so much focus on those little, tiny, yes porky amendments. The American people really don’t care.
No Senator, it isn’t that we don’t care about pork, we simply don’t care for the pork you’re dishing up.

Please let the senator know that if he does not care how they spend my money, he will have no problems letting me spend his.

I heard this sound bite yesterday. Are we talking about BBQ. If so, then I prefer beef for sandwiches and pork ribs. But if we are talking about government spending, I am vegetarian.

We don’t care about pork? Are you kidding? I guess this means you haven’t been reading my emails, or the messages from your other constituents. Do you have any idea who you represent and what we’re going through? What a stupid statement for you to make. People around me are losing homes, losing jobs, can’t pay bills, are looking forward to a retirement in poverty, and you say we don’t care about pork? Sure, Chuck, take more of my money for more crap that I don’t want or need – I don’t mind at all.

Try reading the sign directly behind him in the video. He’s pointing out that the two largest amendments ($106B) were added by Republican senators. And he goes on to say that those “porky” amendments are the ones that should be taken out of the bill. In his words the bill should be about “jobs, tax cuts for the middle class, [and] rebuilding our infrastructure.”
So yeah. It was a dumbass thing to say. But to characterize his position by 16 seconds of a 20 minute speech is disingenuous at best.
(Schumer’s speech starts @42:00 mins. into the video.)

Elwood, I’m sure you also defended him when he caused a run on Indy Mac bank.
