Watching and listening to Bruce Springsteen in the Super Bowl halftime show reminded me of when I was a kid. I was a huge Springsteen fan, saving my babysitting money to buy his albums. As I got older my zeal for the singer faded as I came to realize the values he promotes are the opposite of my own. I even resent giving him my hard earned money. My family certainly wasn’t wealthy and every dollar mattered. It kind of sucks that I voluntarily gave money to the guy. At least I was grounded when he came to town so I missed his concert. Funny, I was so upset at the time and today I’m glad I didn’t give him any more of my money.
Tonight when he sang my once favorite song, Born to Run, I was struck by the line about the death trap and suicide pact. How prophetic. He and millions of Americans entered me and my family into a suicide pact in November, whether we like it or not. I suppose they just consider it shared sacrifice. Some will sacrifice more than others. I’m sure Mr. Springsteen falls into the latter category.
Sorry to ruin your Super Bowl buzz (or worsen your Super Bowl hangover). For a glimpse of what we could be in for click here. It isn’t pretty. We can only hope the predictions are wrong. Then we’ll have something to celebrate.
And now back to the football game.

You may find these interesting. Although I am not a “Bircher” I don’t doubt that much of what they say is pertinent to today.
