What Did You Expect?

Congress just passed the $787 billion porkulus bill, with no Republican votes. The bill was over 1,000 pages and wasn’t released until late last night so nobody had a chance to read it. Now it moves on to the Senate.

What did we really expect? Most Americans voted for Barack Obama without taking the time to find out what he’s really all about. Why should we expect our representatives to take the time to find out what they are voting for?

If you want to see what’s in the porkulus bill visit ReadtheStimulus.org. Even the format the bill was released in was designed to make it difficult to find out what’s in there.

The total size of the four major files is over 100MB, and consists of 1419 pages. Three of the four files are huge “scanned” PDFs, meaning they were created by printing the original document and then scanning it in again — and therefore contain no real “text” that can be easily searched. This will make our parsing process difficult and more time consuming…

Happy Friday the 13th. Are you scared yet?
