I just saw Michelle Malkin on Glenn Beck’s show. (Once the video is available I’ll post that.) They were discussing the wretched GIVE/SERVE Act. She brought up Senator Jim DeMint’s comments about this bill. This is the best thing I’ve heard or read on this subject.

Update: As promised, below is the video of Michelle Malkin on the Glenn Beck Program.
The good news is, according to Michelle, the provision requiring mandatory service was taken out of the bill. The bad news is, the Give Act passed the Senate today by a vote of 79-19. The biggest disappointment is that Senator Gregg voted yes. McCain also voted yes. Sigh.

Update 2 - The plan for mandatory service isn’t dead yet. According to the Washington Examiner.
Between being first officially “reported” to the House and being voted on by the full House, bill managers stripped one whole section of the measure that created a Congressional Commission on Civil Service, thus removing the section that contained the language cited above concerning ”a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people” and a possible requirement for “all individuals in the United States” to perform such service. The section could be restored during the Senate-House conference committee meeting. A new, separate bill containing that language has since been introduced in the House.

God Bless Jim DeMint. I wish he would repeat this speech at the top of his lungs, from the top The Hill… and from every rooftop in America.
Now that I’ve wiped away my tears, I’m going to print out the speech so I can have it carved on my headstone when I pass.

As far as the ‘bullet bill’…. Just watch, in a few years the death toll in inner cities from stray arrows, the death toll from family disturbances with bows and arrows, and finally the death toll of convenience store clerks from crossbow-wielding thieves will all but truly ‘Kill this Bill’, at least until every method of self-defense in America is included in it. There will always be another thing to commit a violent crime with. Will sticks and stones be next? Oh, what a world!!

One of these days butter knives will be illegal. Even the plastic kind. I mean, you could turn one into a shiv and hurt someone with it.

Garden tools will probably outlawed too. I think they’ll be outlawing gardens, or at least regulating them. We’ll have to register our pitchforks, spades and hoes.
Another subject: Did you hear Hillary Clinton talking about how we really only have ourselves to blame for the violence in Mexico because Americans buy their drugs. I kept thinking she was talking to the voters of her own party.
