Obama’s Not Rude, He’s Just Overwhelmed
ByI guess trying to direct the world’s largest economy while compiling a domestic enemies list really takes a lot out of a guy. At least that’s the reason given for President Obama’s snub of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. (Maybe all those parties he’s hosted have taken a toll as well.)
Mr. Obama must not have realized what it’s likely to actually have a job. According to the Telegraph he’s just plain overwhelmed by it all.
But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama’s inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.
Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president’s surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.
A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama’s inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to “even fake an interest in foreign policy”.
A British official conceded that the furore surrounding the apparent snub to Mr Brown had come as a shock to the White House. “I think it’s right to say that their focus is elsewhere, on domestic affairs. A number of our US interlocutors said they couldn’t quite understand the British concerns and didn’t get what that was all about.”
The American source said: “Obama is overwhelmed. There is a zero sum tension between his ability to attend to the economic issues and his ability to be a proactive sculptor of the national security agenda.
“That was the gamble these guys made at the front end of this presidency and I think they’re finding it a hard thing to do everything.”
Perhaps he could have signed the Porkulus bill in Washington DC instead of flying to Denver for a photo up. Or he could have scratched all those trips around America trying to sell the crap sandwich to the American people. Nothing like worrying more about one’s approval ratings than actually doing one’s job. Ed Morrisey put it best:
I’m not sure which is worse. At least if he meant to snub Brown, it would suggest a certain competence at this brand of diplomacy. Instead, we’re told that the Obama White House and their staff are just a bunch of incompetents who got in over their heads.
Which is, of course, the point we made continuously over the last two years.

In other words what the Telegraph article is really saying is that Obama is in way over his head!
Wow, are we in trouble…
That’s not good.
Good post, LC,
The guy is a near-do-well.
All we can hope for is a challenge to his citizenship sticks and that will undo everything and throw dems into turmoil. LOL
A fellow can dream can’t he?
