Some Really Bad Advice

There’s a certain person who frequently tells me “Stop working so hard!” or “You work too hard.” Normally I just shrug off such silly advice but one day last week this person said in the next breath “You know, I never was good at making money.”

Aha! “Stop following your own advice!” I wanted to shout. If all Americans took the advice “Don’t work so hard” would we have life saving drugs? Would we have computers? If I didn’t work so hard would you have ever found this website?

I know, we all need some down time. The human body and mind needs rest in order to function properly. But doesn’t it seem that Americans have turned leisure into an art form?

And now we have federal and state governments telling people not to work so hard. They’re increasing unemployment benefits, welfare payments and food stamps. And for those that do work really hard they’re threatening to take more of their earnings away to give to those who don’t want to work hard. At this point, why on earth shouldn’t we all just take it easy?
