Virus Alert: Be Careful When Googling Glenn Beck’s 9-12 Project!

Cross posted from FaultLine USA

The overwhelming response to Glenn Beck’s “We Surround Them,” The 912 Project Special, which aired Friday March 13, crashed their servers. This morning I decided to Google The 912 Project to see if the servers were back up.

BIG, BIG, BIG MISTAKE!

As soon as I clicked on the link to The 912 Project, a virus alert popped up on my computer from Anti-Virus – Number 1.

It looked just like my usual virus alert. But this nasty Trojan IS cleverly disguised as a virus alert.

Then a Windows alert popped up. It looked just like my Windows manager. These things kept popping up constantly – about every 30 seconds.

The Anti-Virus – Number 1 had insinuated itself into my computer without me even clicking anything (except the link to The 912 Project site) to open it in the first place.

I did a Google search for Anti-Virus – Number 1 and discovered that it is a nasty Trojan that attaches to your computer while you are doing a search; Usually when you are searching a very popular site because it spreads from other computers searching that site.

This virus escaped the notice of my firewall and my virus detection (shame on Norton 360).

Here’s what Anti-Virus Number 1 is

What is Anti-Virus-1?

Anti-Virus-1 is a rogue anti-spyware program similar to Antivirus2010. Anti-Virus-1 was created to trick you into believing your computer is infected with spyware to then offer Anti-Virus-1′s full version to remove the supposed threats. Anti-Virus-1 may enter your computer system with the help of Trojans (such as Zlob or Vundo). Once the Trojan is installed, you’ll receive numerous popups and fake system alert notifications informing you about imaginary infections. In addition, Anti-Virus-1 is able to perform a fake system scan and generate a list of spyware as a result. Anti-Virus-1 will use all its fraudulent mechanisms to finally redirect you to a malicious website that sells Anti-Virus-1 as a legitimate spyware remover.

They also have detailed removal instructions here.

After searching Google I found several folks that recommended the free download Malware detection program called Malwarbytes.

I downloaded it and did a quick scan. But the quick scan didn’t find Anti-Virus – Number 1. Then I did a complete scan which took over 2.5 hours to complete.

It eventually found it and I was able to remove Anti-Virus – Number 1.

Save yourself a wasted day of grief and wait a while before visiting The 912 Project.

Update by Karen: If you want to go to Glenn Beck’s 9-12 project I would suggest going right to his home page at Fox News where they have a link.

Well, look on the bright side LC, you were to busy to surf through pages and pages of mind numbing crap trying to find one little nugget of truth.
Glad you got your virus rooted out and are again happily enjoying the ether waves.

Looks like I blew it again, it seems Faultline was the recipient of the virus. Guess I should have read closer huh. It was the damned liberals fault, I know they are to blame for my not reading the cross post notation.

Just read that link. Heaven forbid we send the military to the border. If they don’t do that, they should arm every law abiding citizen living near the border to defend themselves.

    “shame on Norton”

Norton is completely useless against new malware.
I got a new email worm in the form of a VB script while I had norton installed. I looked at it in notepad and it’s routines were actually named things like “Malware”. Norton had no problem with this.

Get yourself Firefox and the NoScript plugin.

Thanks for cross-posting this warning. Some of the comments on my blog actually I had been duped by a lefty to cross-post the warning. No. It actually happened to me. Thanks Kilo about the warning about useless Norton, which failed to detect this malware even though I had the virus protection running and my firewall was also up and running.

I canme across a site today researching the 9/12 project. The movie there blew my mind and there was also information addressing those FEMA prison Glenn talks about. I think we are in trouble.
    The site is here- http://912project.wordpress.com

That virus has been around a long time and they keep setting it up under a new name. Unbelievably, they are wanting you to buy their anti-virus software. Who in their right mind would buy anti-virus software from a company that puts a virus on your computer to advertise their software.

I wish the company and everyone who writes this malicious software for the company would be banned from ever using a computer or accessing the internet for the rest of their natural life.

You can get this by accessing many sites. I think my son was accessing his myspace account when he came into contact with it.

People who own property on the border have been trying to protect their property from them. That is why the judge allowing the civil lawsuit against the rancher in Arizona enraged me. They have endured damage to their property and had their lives threatened on many occassions.
