Good Riddance, Senator Specter – Update: Maybe Senator Snowe Will Join Him – Update: Michael Steele Slams Specter

Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter will be switching parties. Not that we haven’t known all along that his heart and mind lie with the democrats, now it will just be official. I say “good riddance” to him.

He was never a reliable vote for the republicans and having him out of the party may actually help them with fundraising. There aren’t many conservative republicans that could stomach the thought of donating money to the Republican Party only to have that money go to help re-elect the likes of Arlen Specter.

Specter exemplifies everything wrong with politics – more interested in his own political career than the people her purports to represent. This is another small step into weeding the RINO’s out of the Republican Party. He’s the democrat’s problem now – they can have him.

Update: Senator Olympia Snowe rushed to Specter’s defense.

On the national level, she says, “you haven’t certainly heard warm encouraging words of how they [Republicans] view moderates. Either you are with us or against us.”

“Ultimately we’re heading to having the smallest political tent in history they way things are unfolding,” Snowe said. “We should have learned from the 2006 election, which I was a party of. I happened to win with 74% of the vote in a blue collar state but no one asked me how did you do it. Seems to me that would have been the first question that would have come from the Republican party to find out so we could avoid further losses.”

They didn’t need to ask her how she did it. She’s a liberal senator from a liberal state. As far as I’m concerned she can join Senator Specter on his way out. She’s another unreliable vote, and the democrats already let it be known that they weren’t opposed to using reconciliation to ram their agenda down our throats with only 51 votes.

Update 2: RNC Chair Michael Steele slammed Specter in a press release:

Some in the Republican Party are happy about this. I am not.

Let’s be honest-Senator Specter didn’t leave the GOP based on principles of any kind. He left to further his personal political interests because he knew that he was going to lose a Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record.

Republicans look forward to beating Sen. Specter in 2010, assuming the Democrats don’t do it first.

Not bad news, I suspect Ol’ Arlen knew he would not win the GOP primary…so he got out while still having a chance to win as a Dimocritter…..

Go riddance to bad political hacks…now of course this will give the DNC the 60 votes needed to end all “debate”…now America can give full blame to the Dems….the GOP is out of the power loop in total.

    Squeaky sphincter on the issues;

Wonder what they bought him off with?

Is it any wonder honest men/women won’t walk among the pit of vipers that inhabit our capital?

AWM, I love “pit of vipers”, I’m using that from now on! Farewell to Arlen. And a lot more, I hope, next year. While I do not want to become the ‘party of religion’ (because I recognize, realistically, that one can be very conservative without being particularly religious and I want those people on our side), I do certainly want it to once again be ‘the party of conservatives’.

Can we urge McCain to go sooner versus later? And WHY do you suppose the left will not stop talking about Sarah Palin?! WE aren’t talking about her, but they just can’t stop!

Some call it a “defection.” I call it: TRUTH IN ADVERTISEMENT.

PA has been dominated by Dem/libs for a very long time. This is why Specter survived as a RINO. **And why Phila is in the toilet.**

Daneen: The Repubs NEVER were and never will be a “party of religion.” That’s just how the libs & MSM define it.

My biggest dissapointment is that Repubs don’t fight harder to define themselves and properly frame the debate….NOT that this @sshat has jumped ship.

MANY incumbents need to look over their shoulders come the next election.
