The local evening news covered today’s tea party protests. ABC affiliate 9 WSYR’s top story was the tea parties.
Coverage from the local CBS/NBC affiliate can be found here.
I briefly appear in the video below! The video may take a few moments to load and there is a short commercial before the story begins. (Sorry!)
Hint: Pinkish, salmon colored jacket (00:45), holding a sign that says “I’m not your ATM”. That was a borrowed sign, we had parking issues and I left my “Can we bankrupt the USA – YES WE CAN” in the back of the car. Click here for more video from 9WSYR and a slide show.
I have to say, the local coverage was more fair than the main stream media. There were no vulgar “teabagging” references. They ran the story of the local protests before the story of Obama promising to simplify the tax code. (Yeah, I know, tell me another one.) I watched Charlie Gibson’s coverage on ABC News later. He started with Obama’s promise to simplify the tax code and then had a short piece about the tea parties. Of course, they felt the need to include the accusations that the National Tax Day Tea Party was not a grass roots effort.

Good job! Nice hair, too! I was, of course, handling the boss’s taxes and couldn’t be at ours, but sent my niece around the park twice so she could honk every time I told her to.
That’s okay. The Left doesn’t have to pay attention to us. Or take us seriously. As long as we take us seriously and keep building this ‘something’ into votes. 2010 is very near. We need to stay fed up and determined and cut them off at the knees.
Somebody said that there weren’t THAT many people out protesting and I said yeah, that’s because we conservatives all have JOBS…
I think it’s significant that Las Vegas never really gets into protesting; maybe because of all the shift work, timing is never really great; we just don’t ever really do it much; and the crowd today was really big. An excellent sign for us. Hopefully for Clean Face Harry Reid not so much.

A couple of people at the Syracuse Tea Party stopped in at the one in Cortland yesterday. They said the crowd was pretty good sized… guesses were between 800 and 1,000 people.
Near the end of the video, the reporter mentioned that Obama will be countering the protesters and reminding them that there were “tax-cuts” in the stimulus package… He needs to be reminded that tax-credits are not tax-cuts. They are wealth-redistribution.

I didn’t know Cortland had a tea party, too! That’s great.
I saw an AP report that said tens of thousands protested across the country. That must mean there were millions!

Even the one I went to in Port Richey, Fla. was estimated by THE PRESS of all things had almost 2000 participants. There was nothing in the papers or TV before it, only could find out in the internet.
