Now or Never for the Republican Party

Some RNC members are breaking rankswith party chairman Michael Steele and calling for the denunciation of Senators Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. All I can say is: It’s about time!

I have nothing against Michael Steele, I even endorsed him to chair the RNC. He certainly has a big task ahead of him, it’s an uphill battle. He wants to expand the party, bring back the ‘big tent.’ That’s understandable, any political party wants to increase its numbers.

The problem is, we don’t want to increase our numbers for the wrong reasons. Isn’t that what got us into this mess in first place? George Bush promised ‘compassionate conservatism’ which was code for ‘expanding the federal government.’ John McCain fought for amnesty for illegals and lost the Hispanic vote to Barack Obama. No wonder people who don’t follow politics fell for the candidate of ‘hope and change.’ He had the same message (only bigger) with a better delivery.

Republicans need to stop trying to woo people over to our side for the wrong reasons. We’ll never be the party of bribery, the democrats have cornered that market. Newt Gingrich said republicans have to stop acting like the right wing of the Democrat Party. He’s so right.

It’s time to weed out the republicans that don’t get it. As much as I would like to see a strong third party, realistically it isn’t going to happen any time soon. That leaves changing the Republican Party and bringing it back to its historic foundation. The United States is a Constitutional republic, it’s about time the Republican Party remembers that. It’s bad enough we let Barack Obama and the democrats claim Lincoln as one of their own. Are we really ready to just lay down and let him destroy the republic?

I know a lot of democrats. They believe their party is the party of the ‘working man.’ The funny thing is, they want to be left alone by the government as much as I do. They dislike the welfare state. They despise high taxes. So why do they keep voting for democrats? Well, some will vote the party line no matter what. The others just haven’t seen a better alternative. Personally, I’m sick and tired of trying to explain why republicans are any better than democrats. Seriously, how much better are they? They don’t promise quite as much as the democrats but they haven’t found a way to communicate why all of the those promises are bad for the American people in the long run.

We’re in a battle for our republic. To date, the republicans have done a dismal job of doing anything to preserve our republic. That’s why those who ‘get it’ deserve attention, and those who don’t need to go. For the first time in my life the phrase ‘It’s now or never’ has significant meaning.

In this digital age it shouldn’t be hard for republican politicians to brush up on the great ones that came before them. Here’s a hint: Ronald Reagan. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if a few of his ideas were borrowed in order to save our republic. Not to say I have a problem with Jefferson or Washington, but thanks to the liberal hijacking of our education system most Americans have no idea who they are, or more importantly, what they stood for.

Hoo-ah! You go! “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more!!”

And dittos. We have a lot of work to do, and you touched on part of that in your last sentence: the liberal hijacking of our education system. We have a lot of work to do in that very area. Do you know when the left launched its concerted attack against education? Really and truly? 1980, when Newsweek magazine asked if Political Correctness was a passing fad, or thought police. It was just coming into vogue and everyone though nah, it’s a fad. No, it was a PLAN. Which means Republicans/conservatives have been asleep while this menace grew over the last thirty years. On the bright side, even my favorite democrat friends and family and awake to the fact that they have voted for the wrong people and are very, very sorry. “Hope” for the next election cycle there. I suspect many will secretly vote Republican, since they are now scared out of their wits and have discovered that “rich” is a very relative term.

also, I agree: time for a RINO herd drive, right off the cliff–I’m saddled and ready to go.

The seeds were probably planted bfore 1980, but, like anything, it took time to grow. Have you seen the Fox and Friends reports about the blatant bias in our textbooks? I’ve been buying history books just to supplement my childrens’ education! But yet I’m forced (under threat of losing my home) to pay really high property taxes for education. So, basically, we’re funding our own destruction. And I was going to say more, but this little comment took me forever to post using the laptop.

    Hi Daneen,

My complete disdain for government schooling came in my 10th grade algebra class on a fine spring afternoon in 1967. It was the beginning of the new math era and the teacher tried to tell me that 2+2 was equal to or greater than 4 by the simple addition of a > with a line under it. I argued that it couldn’t be more than, or less than, but was absolute. He disagreed. I now have to question everything they taught me, I have been forced to re-educate myself, in so doing I have found that there are four hidden dynasties of power in this world. Education, Economics, Government, and Religion.

Men seeking power will attempt to preside over these four to influence the lives of other men, and to stay in power. Men seeking justice will allow each the right to preside over his own affairs, governing only to protect those rights. Men who seek justice seldom relish power, other than the power of justice itself. Men who seek power seldom seek justice.

…”Republicans need to stop trying to woo people over to our side for the wrong reasons.”…

There you have the answer to the republican downfall, they believe we should come to them, we should let them decide what we want, when in fact it is they who should come to us. I guess the concept of representing the people is just to simple for the intelligentsia to grasp.

My biggest gripe when trying to communicate with a politician is they invariably disregard what you have to say and try to convince you that you really don’t understand. Well, I understand “shall not be infringed”, I understand “or permitting the free exercise thereof;”. I understand them well, and every effort by a political party to diminish these rules is anathema to our republic.

…”and every effort by a political party to diminish these rules”…

Excuse me, I said rules, wrong. These are unalienable rights, endowed by our Creator. Read Exodus chapter twenty and continue reading, these are the words of your and my creator, this is what HE feels is just.
These are the laws this nation was founded on. It’s short and sweet, and yet we have over twenty thousand firearms laws on the books in this nation. Which of these twenty thousand laws prevented what happened yesterday??

Amendment X of the Constitution is a pretty easy read, too. Very simple to understand:

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Hi back, AWM–I had the same experience in (public) high school. If you are, by nature, a critical thinker who is not willing to just memorize for a test (because of an inborn, pathological curiosity), it just doesn’t work for you, does it? When you naturally look beyond what you are being told and tally the ‘facts’ up for yourself and discover that the teacher is WRONG…well, that just makes you back up and question and search and answer for yourself. Obviously, I am not talking about liberal personalities here–they memorize really well, go to Harvard, and get elected President because they can read out loud.

I educated myself. I also skipped college (thank goodness!!) and continued to educate myself: first in a practical manner, to obtain skills an employer would pay for—and then ceaselessly since, in all things. I can hold my own and then some with the college educated crowd (and often have the pleasure of having to explain something to them). I have been served well (and still make an excellent, above-average living) by two things: curiosity and a refusal to accept what I am told without critical thinking. And that goes for the Republican party, too—they had better be able to explain and sell me on their “strategery”, or they can forget my vote.

Those people work for me, not the other way around. They might be surprised by a very large, viable third party full of actual conservatives one day. We can hope.
(ps–I saw a good Jefferson quote yesterday: “I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just”. Nice one.)

It used to bother me when the GOP took a knife to a gun fight. Since Bush’s presidency, McCain “campaign”, etc it bothers me more that they don’t even bring the knife. The National Republican Trust may be our last hope.
