Could be. At least according to an FBI agent who leaked information to the Northeast Intelligence Network in Canada.
“Listen to what I am saying,” stated the source during an interview with Doug Hagmann, founder (NEIN). “The Department of Homeland Security Intelligence Assessment that is receiving so much attention is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, and the true patriotic citizens of this country are on the Titanic. This is what bothers me. But is goes far beyond that assessment. There have been very significant changes made over the last few years that redirect the focus and assets of the intelligence community internally. These changes have greatly accelerated under this administration, and the threats have been redefined to include those who used to be patriots. It’s not only chilling but absolutely insulting to God-fearing Americans.”
According to this unimpeachable source, a single-page confidential directive issued by the FBI headquarters in Washington, DC (FBIHQ) was sent to each of the 56 field offices located across the United States on or about March 23, 2009, instructing the Special Agents in Charge (SACs) of those offices to verify the date, time and location of each TEA Party within their region and supply that information to FBI headquarters in Washington. The source stated this correspondence termed the TEA parties “political demonstrations,” and added that the dissemination of the directive was very tightly controlled. “Not all agents were privy to this correspondence,” stated the source, who compared the dissemination to an older “Do Not File” classification.
In addition to obtaining or confirming the location and time of each “demonstration,” each field office was instructed to obtain or confirm the identity of the individual(s) involved in the actual planning and coordination of the event in each specific region, and include the local or regional Internet web site address, if any. The information collected by region was then reportedly sent to FBI Headquarters.
The source alleges that a second directive was issued on or about April 6, 2009 that reportedly instructed each SAC to coordinate and conduct, either at the field office level and/or with the appropriate resident agency, covert video surveillance and data collection of the participants of the TEA parties. Surveillance was to be performed from “discreet fixed or mobile positions” and was to be performed “independently and outside of the purview of local law enforcement.”
If this is true it should certainly give you pause. At the same time, I think they would find someone like myself very boring. I go to work every day, raise my children, take care of my mother and pay my bills.
I also noticed at the tea party I attended that the police didn’t appear that concerned. I even saw one clap during a speech. He better watch himself.
Another observation: DHS and the democrats seem to think that these protests are due to the recession and economic conditions. They are so clueless! It isn’t the recession, it’s their response to the recession (or the way they are using the recession as a means to an end) that has us all so upset.

At the one i attended in Lancaster, PA – there were about 500 or more people there. It was rainy, cold, windy, miserable but we were there. There were no police present. Not one. IF there were any protestors, i never heard them nor saw them. I did see two Vets holding a huge American flag up for the three hours we were there.
There were some News people there and one or more persons taking pictures. So it’s hard to say if any FBI were covertly taking photos or video. Though i wonder what they are really supposed to look for – a peaceful protest in the freezing rain with normal folks, some with signs, some without, listening to speeches about our freedoms and the Constitution? THAT is worthy of taking up their time?
What a joke.
So…since i’m probably on THE LIST as well here’s my life. i work two jobs, own my own house and car, go to church on Sunday, pay my taxes, relax with my neighbors on the weekends, visit my family/siblings/grandfather, take walks in the woods, swim, read, do cross-stitch, go to target practice, play the piano, watch re-runs of Will and Grace and usually mind my own business.
i know..i know…totally a dangerous person. oohhhhh i’m so scary.

If the FBI did go to a Tea party they saw Law Abiding Patrotic Citizens holding PEACEFUL Demonstrations thus exercising their RIGHTS.
Only the most PC agent could see malicious intent.
In my experience libs and PC types tend to be lawyers and NOT law enforcers.
I doubt either the FBI or the Military, dispite orders to the contrary, will take action against citizens who are acting in a lawful manner.
The MSM may spin it otherwise. Judging from how both the lib print and broadcast media are losing money their days of framing the debate to suit themselves are limited.

I went to the Tea Party in Richmond. About 3000 attended on a chilly, windy, rainy evening. The crowd was concerned, but upbeat and pro-American. Just regular people getting off work and coming downtown to check things out.
The Richmond Police were fantastic as always, and if the FBI is watching these events it’s ok with me. I’d expect them to be watching at Code Pink events, anti-war rallies, major political events, etc. as well. It’s their job to keep watch for those on the fringes who push things toward violence or anarchy.
From what I’ve seen, and read by those who attended, there wasn’t any trouble or arrests at any of the Tea Party events. None.
However, the recent definitions by the government of who is considered “fringe” are worrisome. It includes those “groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority”.
Our founders believed this strongly, and to classify those who agree as some sort of potential risk to the country is not a positive development.
