When it Comes to North Korea Obama’s All Talk and No Action

Shortly before President Obama’s speech against nuclear proliferation North Korea launched a rocket through Japan’s airspace.

North Korea’s official news agency had been warning about the launch from the moment that Obama had been wrapping up his business at the NATO meetings on Saturday. “Preparations for launching ‘Kwangmyongsong-2,’ an experimental communications satellite, by carrier rocket ‘Unha-2′ have been completed at the satellite launching ground in the east coastal area of the DPRK,” the Korean Central News Agency reported.

But few believed that North Korea’s long-range, multi-stage rocket test had anything to do with communications, other than sending a warning to its neighbors. While North Korea claimed Sunday that their satellite was successfully deployed to launch its space program, U.S. and South Korean watchers said no satellite or other object went into orbit as a result of the launch.

“North Korea broke the rules once more by testing a rocket that could be used for a long range missile,” Obama said Sunday to a crowd of more than 20,000 in Prague, Czech Republic. “This provocation underscores the need for action — not just this afternoon at the UN Security Council, but in our determination to prevent the spread of these weapons.”

I sure hope President Obama takes the North Korean threat seriously, but it sure doesn’t look that way. Rather than doing anything to prevent the rocket launch, the Obama administration prefers to talk…and hope. Newt Gingrich warned that Obama’s inaction could have devastating consequences.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told “Fox News Sunday” that he would have disabled the long-range missile before North Korea launched it, saying too many people “do not appreciate the scale of the threat that is evolving on the planet.”

“One morning, just like 9/11, there’s going to be a disaster,” Gingrich said. “I have yet to see the United Nations do anything effective with either Iran or North Korea.”

Reacting to President Barack Obama’s speech in Prague, Gingrich called the plan for a Global Summit on Nuclear Security a “wonderful fantasy idea,” saying Russia and other nations can’t be trusted.

“What are they going to promise, and why would we believe them?” Gingrich said. “It’s very dangerous to have a fantasy foreign policy, and it can get you in enormous trouble.”

Unfortunately, everything about the Obama administration seems to be based on fantasy. This fantasy could annihilate far more than the economy.

Obamas desire to be the Focal Point of the world (The worlds Best Friend), will weigh heavily in how he reacts to Korea. His ability to sway Leaders of Nations not so impressed by His speeches (Russia, China) will prove to be little. Leaving only His ability as a Diplomat to convince them to further enact punishment on Korea–That being said–this will be a true test of Obamas ability to lead. The glamor is gone, and reality is setting in.
