California is a disaster. Things are so bad Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is panhandling in Washington for backing of the state’s debt.
In a move with only one modern-day precedent, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic lawmakers are pressing the Obama administration and members of Congress for federal loan guarantees to help the state out of a desperate, multibillion-dollar jam.
How did they find themselves in this situation? I’m glad you asked. Michelle Malkin offers a small clue. She took a look at the salaries of some of California’s public employees.
“Special Nurse:” $350,000+
Municipal railway manager: $325,000+
“Administrative services” department head: $280,000+
Those figures don’t even include bennies. And it gets even better. A San Francisco Police Officer III rakes in over $230,000 per year. Who knew a job in law enforcement was so lucrative? But that’s nothing compared to the salaries of University of California professors. Other state employees are also handsomely compensated. The president of the state compensation insurance fund is only pulling in about half a million dollars per year. I suppose that’s because California has the second highest workers’ compensation rates in the nation.
I’m waiting for President Obama to give a major speech, denouncing these rich folks who refuse to put some skin into the game.
