President Obama recently declared that we’re broke. Yet he thought nothing of spending our money to jet off to Las Vegas and Los Angeles for a little Democratic Party fundraising. He sure has his priorities, that one. Forget about North Korea – he has to keep the democrats’ numbers up so those pesky republicans can’t block his agenda. Makes sense, in a twisted sort of way.
It also makes sense that a man showing his wife a nice time should be a priority. But why, oh why, can’t he show her a nice time a little closer to home? They live in the White House for crying out loud! But no, President Obama had to take first lady Michelle to New York City. Just like Valentine’s Day when they travelled to Chicago to dine in their favorite restaurant. These date nights are starting to add up. Only you and I – the little people - the unwashed masses – are supposed to feel the effects of the recession. Don’t expect the Obama’s to feel your pain. Heck, you’re picking up a big part of the tab. If only they’d tell us how much of the tab.
His public schedule listed no official events, so President Obama had plenty of time to devote to being a weekend dad and spouse.
The president and first lady Michelle Obama watched daughter Malia’s soccer game for an hour Saturday morning in the Palisades neighborhood, a short drive from the White House.
For the evening, the first couple jetted to New York City for date night. A Broadway show and probably dinner were on tap.
The White House refused to say how much the trip was costing taxpayers.
Whatever it cost us, it sounds like we they got our money’s worth.
President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama landed in New York Sunday afternoon, and after taking a helicopter from JFK into Manhattan, drove up the West Side Highway, where the northbound lanes were shut down by police for their visit, past Ground Zero, into the Village for dinner at the Village’s Blue Hill restaurant. From there, they went north to Times Square, where they went to to see a production of “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” at the Belasco Theater on West 44 Street.
Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest read a statement from Obama: “I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished.” (Emphasis mine)
But it’s not finished. We still have at least at least 1332 days until the nightmare ends. Can’t they wait?

I think that he and Michelle deserve a ”date” and I am wise enough to know that even if it costs the taxpayer a few bucks that in the long run I rather have a relaxed President then one that is so stressed out by how he was left by the Bush administation to start his term that he can not think straight. We all need a break-so how about giving the man who is trying to turn things around to better our country a break!!

A date night? Yes, every couple should have one. My husband takes me out regularly. However, only special occasions call for much more than a nice walk, or a cheap dinner. And then rest assured the entire evening doesn’t cost more that a hundred dollars! The cost of the occasion shouldn’t be what makes it. If Michelle can’t tolerate a cheap date spending time w/ the hubby then her priorities are messed up!! And besides that I have had to tell my family that some things I promised them aren’t an option because quite simply, “we can’t afford it”. Those are true words of love in a family if you really care about the future!

Then Sandra ~ they should go out on a date that he takes out his little credit card and pays for it himself! There are plently of nice restaurants in DC.
Why should the tax payers fork out $70,000 for anyone to have dinner & a show? Today alone 21,000 people lost their jobs!!!I Your man said the country is BROKE.
He doesnt look stressed. He and his wife are having a ball!
Your comment was as stupid as the idiot who blamed Bush for the crap going on in N. Korea. You can thank the administration B4 Bush for that mess.

[...] bad as President Obama taking Air Force One to NY for date night with Michelle. Good point. I was a lot more critical of that, by the way. Well, now Christie’s helicopter ride is a non issue, since he reimbursed [...]
