NY Nannies haven’t given up on that soda tax

By

When in Albany, if at first you don’t succeed in raising taxes, try, try again.

State lawmakers are trying to give the fat tax new life.

Senate Democrats want to impose a penny excise tax on non-diet sodas to help fund a plan to provide property tax relief to homeowners.

“It’s a small amount of money, as far as increasing the price of soda, and it would allow the governor and the state to have a new slogan for soda: ‘Have a coke, a rebate check and a smile,’” said state Sen. Jeff Klein (D-Bronx) who unveiled the plan yesterday.

Only a penny. Does that make them penny-wise and pound-foolish?

As long as it’s someone else’s money this will NEVER end.

The same tactic is used here locally. Everytime a levy fails they immediately “recycle” it for another ballot. Often without change!

Since there is no rule about levies that fail having to “wait” and it’s govt doing the proposing, we have ballot after ballot until the levy passes. They either wear us down or “sneak” it by having the ballot on a off day with minimal notice.

HInt: A 3 year levy that get’s “modfied” to a 2 year levy in NOT a reduction as they simply put up ANOTHER levy in 2 years.

    Grrrrrrrr
