Obamanation Weekly Round Up

The irony continues.

The president wants his proposed health care plan to focus on prevention. Sounds good, but to pay for it he needs us all to smoke heavily, get drunk alot, and cure our hangovers with sugary drinks. I’m no doctor – I don’t even play one on TV – but that sure doesn’t sound like a prescription for a healthy America to me. However, it may not be so bleak, as health industry executives announced they will slash health care costs immediately! Sorry about that, there’s a little dispute, so we don’t really know what’s happening on that front.

President Obama reminded us of his prerogative to change his mind. He’s now against releasing detainee interrogation photos, but not so opposed as to issue an executive order. He also decided that indefinite detention for high level terror suspects may not be such a bad idea. (Thanks for taking one for the team, Dick Cheney!)

After eight years of attacking President Bush with impunity, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has been feeling pretty bold. So bold, in fact, that she decided to go to war with the CIA. She didn’t get the memo that the CIA isn’t nearly as gentlemanly as George W. Bush. I can’t see how this will end well for Mrs. Pelosi, which is good news if you’re an American!

There was no good news on the jobs front this week, job losses exceeded expectations. But it’s not all bad news, if you’re lucky enough to be a member of a preferred union or the federal government, your job should be safe. Lucky you! But not everyone is so lucky.

There are quite a few folks who can expect to lose their jobs any day now – like the Lockheed employees in the small town of Owego, NY; or employees of automobile dealers who have been told they’re being shut down. Reality is starting to hit home, there’s only so much stimulus to go around, especially when we’re sending some of it to dead people. But don’t feel left out, you and you’re children get to pick up the tab!

The irony just continued when the biggest-spending president ever decided to give some students a lecture on fiscal responsibility. It’s all starting to make sense now that we found out he’s always lived his life this way. When times were tight for the Obama’s they didn’t tighten their belts - they squeezed their equity instead. But they are different than the rest of us - when one is as gifted as Barack Obama, one doesn’t need to worry about balancing a budget.

Just another week in the political circus of Obamanation.

Cheers!
