Former Vice President Dick Cheney sat down with Neil Cavuto for an in-depth interview this afternoon.
The thing I love about Dick Cheney is how absolutely calm he is: even when discussing his outrage over the Obama administration’s threats against former justice department lawyers and others in the Bush administration.
Cavuto asked him about President Bush’s silence since leaving office and critics who call Cheney unstatesmanlike for speaking out. He replied that he isn’t going to remain silent and will stand up to accusations that the Bush administration tortured and broke the law when they did not. Cheney believes that the policies of the Bush administration kept Americans safe for seven and a half years following 9/11, and that President Obama is dismantling those policies.
They also talked about Israel and Iran. Cheney feels that a nuclear Iran is a fundamental threat, not just to Israel, but to the whole region.
He doesn’t agree with President Obama’s plan to close Gitmo and thinks releasing detainees and giving them welfare is a terrible idea. They also touched on the subject of Nancy Pelosi’s knowledge of enhanced interrogation techniques used on high level terrorist detainees.
In part 2 (below) they discussed the economy and the Bush administration’s role in the bailouts.
Cheney asserted that he is not anti-union, in fact, he was a member of the IBEW when he was putting himself through college. But he disagrees with the current Vice President, Joe Biden, over card check which would be a huge mistake.
Mr. Cheney said he did not agree with the decision to bailout GM and Chrysler, but went on to explain that the financial sector is fundamental to the rest of the economy. He finds the way Obama is using the economic crisis to advance a big government agenda objectionable. He doesn’t see how Obama can do the things he is doing without raising taxes on every single American.
When it comes the the Republican Party, Mr. Cheney believes that they can be a big tent, but should not change the fundamental basis of the party. He likes Jeb Bush and would even support him if he were to run for president, but the Reagan legacy is important to the party.

Former VP Cheney has class. That’s the big difference between him and Joe Biden and Obama too. You noted Cheney stays calm even when he is refuting offensive Obama/Biden nonsense. Yes he does. Because he has class. Also Cheney has intelligence and critical thinking skills that the mouthpiece Obama will never have.

Dear Ms. Blumner,
Re your last paragraph, congratulations for hitting the nail SQUARELY on the head. “Flawed” is a kind word and “dangerous” he and the neocons absolutely were.
Paul Wolffowitz and that entire cabal unduly influenced an intellectually challenged George W. Bush and pushed their own selfish agenda which has cost this nation untold damage in prestige, money and influence around the world. All of them have since been discredited and Cheney will fall the fastest.
Thank goodness they’re gone!
