President Obama went off on another fund raising junket. This time to Vegas (no-he did not apologize to the governor of Nevada) and then onto to Los Angeles. We, the taxpayers, get the pleasure of picking up the tab for most of it.
But when the president hit the road Tuesday for a two-day fundraising tour to pack the party coffers, he also was racking up a $265,000 partisan bill for just one leg of the trip, according to a watchdog group — part of which taxpayers, regardless of party affiliation, will have to pay.
Obama started out in Las Vegas, where he stumped that night for state Democrats and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. On Wednesday night he was to attend a two-tiered donor dinner for the Democratic Party in Los Angeles.
But sandwiched between political appearances, Obama squeezed in some quick public remarks on energy, ironically before burning fuel to Los Angeles, at Nevada’s Nellis Air Force Base. It was a key stop, because it gives the entire trip an air of official legitimacy and allows the White House to write off part of the trip under rules governing travel, said Pete Sepp, vice president for policy and communications at the National Taxpayers Union.
“You’ve got to have some official (business) in the trip somewhere. It becomes almost a game to find some official function to hang the trip on,” Sepp said.
The rest, though, is all politics. And, if history is any gauge, the American taxpayer will pick up a large portion of the tab.
So, what did we receive for our generosity? Why, we received a video of the president blathering about change and then telling the crowd “they ain’t seen nothing yet.” Lord help us.
And, just to further push you over the edge into insanity–I live in Las Vegas. There were a thousand people outside Caesars Palace who were recruited only that morning to “welcome” (boo) Obama and Reid; our local newspapers differed on how many were there (in the brief mention) and claimed “hundreds lined the Strip supporting Obama” (bald faced lie). ABC news reported “a couple of dozen” protesters.
What do you do in a world where your eyes see one thing but you are told something completely different???? There were nearly 1,000 people there showing their displeasure and not a peep about that. There is no way you can confuse hundreds with “a couple of dozen”.
And he not only did NOT apologize for the flippant remark that cost us hundreds of thousands in lost convention business (not to mention jobs in the resulting layoffs)—he quipped that “it’s nice to take off for Vegas in the middle of the week”. This man is a complete cipher.
He didn’t apologize to the Mayor, either, who DID meet him at the airport hoping for a personal apology (since it was Mayor Oscar “Whack ‘em” Goodman who made all the righteous noise in the first place).
I’m just disappointed I wasn’t able to take the day off at the last moment (because I don’t call in sick when I’m not)—I live next to Nellis Air Force Base, and Scare Force One had to fly over my house twice. I would have loved to spend the day painting a message (in white!) on my roof for Obama and Clean Face Harry. I can’t print it here….
