New York’s Junior Senator, Kirsten Gillbrand, has received the seal of approval from ACORN.
The president of New York ACORN, Pat Boone, praised Gillibrand for ” fighting to stem the tide of foreclosures to keep New York families in their homes, fighting for pay check fairness and better wages for every New York worker.”
APAC Chair Valerie Holder called the senator a “strong voice for New York children.” Gillibrand has made much of the fact that she is a mother (the first seated senator to also be nursing a child, she says), and is pushing issues that are big with moms (austim awareness, for example, and baby bottle safety.
Landing ACORN is a big get for Gillibrand – despite it’s somewhat controversial image thanks to its efforts in the 2008 presidential election – in large part because Lewis is one of the co-chairs of the Working Families Party.
The labor-backed third party will no doubt be a hotly sought-after line in 2010 – not so much because of its line, although that would be a boon in the general election, but more because its support is seen as a sort of lefty seal of approval for Democrats trying to polish their progressive credentials.
So much for Gillibrand being a conservative Democrat. Now that she doesn’t have to answer only to those pesky voters in her old congressional district she’s free to be herself. Take note, New York.

How many dead people does that mean in votes for her? She’ll probably get 20,000,000 votes in NY City alone.
