These days the media doesn’t even pretend to be fair and unbiased. It’s almost as embarrassing as being laughed at by commies.
Katie Couric addressed students at Princeton and used the opportunity to take shots at republicans.
- When Princeton called to invite me, I was thrilled. It also gave me a perfect excuse for turning down Harvard and Yale – my safety schools! And since I’ve been called a cougar lately in the tabloid press – today I’m very happy to be an honorary tiger! Coming here was a real no-brainer! After all, I can see New Jersey from my house!
- There may be some opportunities in the Republican Party. They’re still looking for an effective spokesman, and the only person they can find so far is Rush Limbaugh … and he won’t take the job because he doesn’t want to give up his prescription plan.
- I understand Class of 54′s Donald Rumsfeld has been charged with guarding the Big Cannon. I don’t want to say he’s taking his job too far, but he’s reportedly been telling President Obama there are weapons of mass destruction hidden at Rutgers.
It’s a good thing Couric gave this speech after receiving her Walter Cronkite journalism award, or they may have mistaken her for a left wing talk show host.
Couric isn’t alone in her adulation for President Obama and all things democrat. In fact, a study by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism concluded that the press is completely infatuated with President Obama. Robert Samuelson calls this infatuation “unhealthy.” (That’s putting it mildly.)
The infatuation matters because Obama’s ambitions are so grand. He wants to expand health-care subsidies, tightly control energy use and overhaul immigration. He envisions the greatest growth of government since Lyndon Johnson. The Congressional Budget Office estimates federal spending in 2019 at nearly 25 percent of the economy (gross domestic product). That’s well up from the 21 percent in 2008, and far above the post-World War II average; it would also occur before many baby boomers retire.
Are his proposals practical, even if desirable? Maybe they’re neither? What might be the unintended consequences? All “reforms” do not succeed; some cause more problems than they solve. Johnson’s economic policies, inherited from Kennedy, proved disastrous; they led to the 1970s’ “stagflation.” The “war on poverty” failed. The press should not be hostile, but it ought to be skeptical.
Mostly, it isn’t. The idea of a “critical” Obama story is one about a tactical conflict with congressional Democrats or criticism from an important constituency. Larger issues are minimized, despite ample grounds for skepticism.
This infatuation will probably last longer than your normal, run of the mill infatuation. But unrequited love doesn’t last forever. The bloom will come off the rose as soon as they realize that Obama’s just not into them; and even worse, that he was just using them all along.
Update Couric also criticized Miss California Carrie Prejean while heaping praise on Judge Sonia Sotomayor, Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton. She also took the opportunity to decry greed! Ha! She makes about $15 million a year! It’s hard to tell if she’s a member of the press or the Obama administration. These days there’s barely a difference.

I am damn sick and tired of seeing Obama on TV. Thank you FOX news forhelping to keep my sanity. For the rest of you media outlets… .I.

See how elitist these people are? Does Couric think EVERYONE in her audience is a liberal who’s going to appreciate those sophomoric jabs?
I guess the word “sophomoric” says it all, though, huh? She’s not even a good journalist when she’s pretending to BE one. I’d like to see her and Palin just go ahead and duke it out, would be a thrill to watch…
