Try reading Hayek or even the Founding Fathers for philosophical and economic arguments against wealth redistribution. As far as health care, it seems to me you're of the mindset that person A has a right to health care even if person B has to pay for it because person C said so. Person B would be the forgotten man. FDR twisted the lesson of the forgotten man and turned him into person A rather than person B. If you have time I would recommend Amity Shlaes's (forgive me if I spelled it wrong - I'm tired) "The Forgotten Man." Very eye opening and turns conventional wisdom on it's head. I then look at the person who made the statements history, past article, speeches etc. Then I fact check what has been said. What I usually find is a endless chain of people quoting people and at the end of the day no one is actually checking the so called facts these people are championing. It's infuriating that so many people aren't willing to actually put in the work to form their own opinions and are all to happy to be spoon fed nonsense by people who are usually so brainwashed or just have ulterior motifs for their actions or statements. There are broader considerations to take into account than a two page article or 30 second sound bites can't bring justice to. You have to dig to get an overall picture, Information is like an ecosystem everything is related the trick is to understand the full extent of your actions upon a system when changing it. The science, ideas, drive and passion to solve our problems exists and will always. There would be no bureaucrat standing in your way of receiving care. If you just go and try to take from the biggest holders of the pie the only thing that happens is the pie shrinks. No more investment. The rich will find safer shores for their money. Yes, in my day job I work for a rich person. He's a good guy. I'd hate to see him destroyed because I would lose my job. And when he's threatened with huge tax increases guess what happens? No bonus. Thanks alot Obama! And I just lost a loved one this week. As sad and heart wrenching as it was, if not for the best medical care in the world we would have lost her five years ago. Those five years were such a blessing. I certainly wouldn't want a government bureaucrat saying she didn't deserve those five years. Nick, you are thoughtful and I appreciate that. But I must disagree. If not for the profit motive we would not have MRI’s, colonoscopies, new drugs or new cancer treatments, to name just a few. You cannot dictate human nature. And if you talk about pie charts, and percentages of people that hold the income, you just are not getting it. The pie has shrunk. The pie isn’t static. You can’t make the pie grow. If you just go and try to take from the biggest holders of the pie the only thing that happens is the pie shrinks. No more investment. The rich will find safer shores for their money. Don’t you want the rich to invest here and get richer – while providing jobs to the rest of us? Or do you prefer that the rich start hiding their money and stop hiring people like us? My point was that most people, American or otherwise want to work and have a since of purpose. Of course there is always people who will game the System from the richest to the poorest of us. That doesn't mean the system cannot be altered to eliminate or deter the fraud. I'm not Barrack Obama and no one speaks for me but myself. I think that our Doctors and Nurses for the most part maintain a high degree of professionalism and Service. However, you can't tell me that some doctors within our current health-care system with it's top heavy pharmaceutical company incentives don't make some medical decisions regarding financial gain. Remember there will always be people who game the system. This is why I don't believe that a health-care system should be profit oriented or driven it should be ran as a sort of non-profit doctors and nurses should keep there same salaries or even be paid more. We should focus on increasing our efficiencies and decrease the amount of middle man(insurance companies and processes)in the system. Patient-Doctor-Payment rather that full staffs of people trying to figure out ways to save money with ill regard for actual patient health. I was implying that if all we had around was a bunch of non idea having capitulating complainers during our country's inception I don't think we would have made it far. We had problem solvers, people who had Ideas of how address pass grievances and prevent new one's and the courage and vision to create a strong nation that served its people. Why would I have feared the Brits? I have no problem speaking to power on any issue, it would have been more likely that I would've had a short life for standing up for what I believe in. As far wealth redistribution, you have got to be kidding me. 35% of our Countries wealth is held by 1% of our population. I'm sure that's exactly what are founders envisioned.
