Many people have been sounding the alarm that a public health care plan would put private insurers out of business. What we didn’t know is that House democrats would design the overhaul for that specific purpose. IBD took a look at the bill and they only had to read 16 pages to find out the democrats want to outlaw – yes outlaw – private insurance companies from issuing policies to new customers.
When we first saw the paragraph Tuesday, just after the 1,018-page document was released, we thought we surely must be misreading it. So we sought help from the House Ways and Means Committee.
It turns out we were right: The provision would indeed outlaw individual private coverage. Under the Orwellian header of “Protecting The Choice To Keep Current Coverage,” the “Limitation On New Enrollment” section of the bill clearly states:
“Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day” of the year the legislation becomes law.
So we can all keep our coverage, just as promised — with, of course, exceptions: Those who currently have private individual coverage won’t be able to change it. Nor will those who leave a company to work for themselves be free to buy individual plans from private carriers.
This is an outrage! Sure, you can keep your insurance if you remain in your job, or stay with your individual plan. But if you change jobs or get dropped by your individual plan you won’t have the option to purchase a plan from a different insurer. You’re only option will be the government plan. Eventually the private health insurers will be out of business and we will all be in the government plan. This is their answer to the health care dilemna. Force Americans into a plan they don’t want.
