Picture it: Baseball after the passage of national health care

There’s nothing like a good baseball game to take your mind off your worries.  The Syracuse Chiefs and Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs provided just that Saturday night. In the 9th the Chiefs rallied and tied the game. Kory Casto put the game to rest in the 12th when he hit it deep into center field to send Corey Patterson home. The crowd went wild!

Minutes after the game ended we were treated to a fantastic 16 minute fireworks display. It was one of the better ones I’ve seen here in Central New York. What a blast we had closing out another Independence Day! We ate junk food, drank soda and stayed up late!

During one of my trips to the concession stand I couldn’t help but wonder what a baseball game will be like if the democrats manage to pass a national health care plan. I noticed my fellow baseball fans enjoying their nachos, large beers and cotton candy. They all looked happy.

Will baseball games be the same if the government controls our health care? Will the parks stop selling beer after the 2nd inning instead of the 7th? Will they substitute grilled eggplant strips for french fries? Will the kids enjoy nibble frozen carrot juice instead of snow-cones? Peanut servings will be limited to the old airline flight size. Fried dough? Forget about it! Coca-Cola? Sorry buddy, it’s Diet Coke or water for you!

But enough of that. It was nice to simply enjoy the moment with my family. Let’s just hope that when our kids grow up they can continue to have the same simple pleasures in life we enjoy today.

I am right there with you. Conservative in a blue state. I love your articles. And wanted to say thank you Kory Casto, who you may like to know is very conservative, for making that a great game!

Thanks, Bo. And no, I was not aware Casto is conservative. But it makes it all the better to be there cheering him on!

    Please come back:-)

You must’ve gone to the fireworks show in an alternate universe. In this one it was horrible. Not only was it way too short (16 minutes is actually on the paltry side for a July 4th display, I’d say), it was nothing but lots of ground displays. No big shells, no huge shells, all low-altitude stuff with the same stuff going off over and over. And no finale. It was the worst display I’ve ever seen in my entire life, bad enough to ruin the entire weekend; I care deeply about fireworks. In spite of the fact that I did enjoy the game and the food, I wish I’d gone to the fairgrounds instead.

On everything else, though, you have my full agreement. Once the government controls health care, the supercharged nanny-state garbage we’ve been dealing with for years is going to kick into overdrive.

I’ll admit, we don’t go to fireworks all that much and haven’t been to any at the Fairgrounds. If they had ended the fireworks 30 seconds sooner the effect would have been better. Maybe next year we’ll check out the fairgrounds fireworks, as long as we don’t have to miss the baseball game!
