President and Mrs. Obama met today with Pope Benedit at the Vatican. Reuters reports that the president promised he wants to reduce abortions. Actually, he took it a little bit further: (Via Free Republic)
President Barack Obama promised Pope Benedict on Friday that he would do everything possible to reduce the number of abortions in the United States, the Vatican said.
Obama and Benedict held private talks for about 40 minutes in the pope’s frescoed study in the Vatican’s apostolic palace and the Vatican said bioethics and life issues were a central part of the discussion.
In a surprise move, the pontiff gave Obama a booklet explaining Vatican opposition to practices such as abortion and embryonic stem cell research, which Obama supports.
“Obama told the pope of his commitment to reduce the number of abortions and of his attention and respect for the positions of the Catholic Church,” Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi told reporters after he was briefed by the pope.
Obama supports abortion rights and says his policy is to change economic and social conditions so as to put more women in situations where they do not feel they have to have an abortion.
Where do I start? Not only is he not “doing everything possible to reduce abortions”, he’s using taxpayer funds (many of whom are Catholic) to fund abortions, not just here in America but overseas as well. What a liar! Even if it were true that he wants to reduce the number of abortions in America, what he’s doing to our republic is hardly an incentive for any American to knowingly bring an innocent child in the world only to be saddled with a lifetime of debt! He’s doing everything he can to discourage Americans from having kids.
Side note: Will the White House send the pontiff’s booklet back to him?
Side note 2: What was Michelle Obama thinking when she got dressed this morning? Or should I say mourning?
I heard this morning that her head covering is a mantilla. Well…okay, but most mantillas are more ornate. This reminds me of Jackie Kennedy’s mourning veil but longer. That combined with the dress, and oh, it was a bad day for MO fashion.
On Obama doing everything possible to reduce abortions, as you have pointed out, he is doing nothing of the sort and he is making all of us culpable for his actions by using our money.

I thought she was going for a “Madonna” look to complement big ears—er, The Messiah.
This man says whatever his current audience would like to hear. If the Pope was Jewish, he would have called him a mensch; if Hispanic, he would have expressed gran respeto….he says whatever works at the moment and why the Obama Stepford Wives don’t care, I will never know.
Michelle looked pretty ridiculous. I’m not Catholic, but would think that it didn’t quite hit the mark of showing respect for the Church or the Pope.

It is a mantilla and it is an old custom for women meeting the Pope. You folks need to do your research before cracking off. Yes it looks dorky, but it is a very old tradition and thus way out of fashion in the modern world. I would honestly think it would be hard for any modern woman to look good in that thing. And it definitely IS a mark of respect!
