It was announced that Sarah Palin will not be seeking re-election as governor of Alaska. Within minutes it was announced that she’s resigning by the end of the month.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) stunned political observers Friday by announcing she will resign the governorship after just two and a half years in office.

The first-term governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee made the announcement at her home in Wasilla. Some political observers had expected Palin to forgo an opportunity to seek re-election, but few expected Palin to resign office. Her reason for stepping down was not immediately clear.

Fox News just reported that they spoke to Todd Palin who said she will be resigning to focus on issues that are important to her and the nation.

I don’t know what to make of this. Bizarre to say the least. Quitting her job mid-term doesn’t seem to be the way to further her political career. We’ll surely hear more about this in the days to come.

Update: As I write this Sarah’s brother is on the phone with Fox News. No video available yet. He said that she’s spent so much time defending herself against all of the bogus ethics complaints filed by her political enemies that she wasn’t able to focus on her duties as governor. Makes sense. He also said she will be working on the things she is passionate about: limited government, etc.

Video via Political Carnival (Sarah’s speech starts at about 2 minutes into the video) It’s starting to make more sense now.

Oh No..Palin has to get out. It has been brought to our attention again that Sarah and Todd are members of the AIP. This has been her roll from the day that she became mayor by the two top members of the AIP. She is dangerous as the AIP want to separate Alaska from USA..

I hoped that Palin would spend the rest of her term continuing to be the best governor in our Nation, and then taking that to a broader place, although I’m not sure what that place is.

I don’t the Democrats were going to let her do that. They’ve settled into Alaska and are stirring the pot against everything she does there. I think she is in an uphill battle. Even though she still has large support of Alaskans, the press controls what gets out, and right now that is only derision.

Maybe this is a very good move. I hope so.

I’d say John Galt just showed up in Alaska…in female form.

I just had a “debate” with a relative who is a leftie.

She TOTALLY thinks Sarah is “stupid” but endorses all the fun and games we’re getting with Big Ears and Joey the clown!

IMO: Like Bush, Sarah will NEVER get a fair shake from the MSM. She energized the base in a dark hour and it scared them. IMO: McCain dropped that ball.

At this point I’m ready to vote ALL OF THEM OUT and START OVER!

I completely agree with Sam (and I’m sure, Sam, you explained all of the ways that Tina Fey, not Sarah Palin, was “stupid”). McCain is the one who lost that election, not Palin. I didn’t have to hold my nose when I looked at her half of my bumper sticker. I wish it had been Romney/Palin myself; but if she wants bigger and better things, I’m not sure bailing out before your job is done is such a good idea. I wish I knew everything she knew, I’d understand this better.

I still don’t know what to make of it. I agree that it wasn’t Sarah who lost the election. I think she made it much closer than it would have been without her.

she probably got tired of all the attention; maybe she’s not cut out to be a celebrity after all
