Irony of the Week – Dan Maffei champions campaign finance reform
ByI almost forgot about what I read in the Syracuse Post Standard Sunday morning that caused me to laugh out loud. My congressman, Dan Maffei, met with Law and Order star Sam Waterston to discuss campaign finance reform. This from the man who was bought and paid for by liberal interest groups. Most of his campaign cash came from groups outside of Central New York. George Soros was a big donor.
Maffei, D-DeWitt, joined more than two dozen members of Congress who met with television’s “Law & Order” star in a Capitol reception room. Waterston, who has raised concerns about the influence of big campaign donors, wants to build support for public financing of congressional races.
As for Maffei, a prolific fundraiser who had the 10th-highest contribution total in the first quarter of the year, Waterston had his support before the two even met.
Maffei has signed on as a co-sponsor to a bipartisan campaign finance reform bill proposed by Rep. John Larson, D-Conn.
Helllloooo! McFly!!!???!!!
Not only does Dan Maffei have money pouring in from special interests, the only reason they put “Dewitt” next to his name is because he decided to move back here - after years as a Washington insider - to launch his run for Congress. What kind of campaign finance reform is he going to pass? The No Average American Taxpayers Allowed to Contribute to Candidates bill? Or maybe The Special Interests Only bill?
Please! Give me a break!
