This is awful. This man should have died in jail. It’s what he deserves.
Scotland’s justice minister announced Thursday that Abdel Baset al-Megrahi — the sole person convicted in the December 1988 midair bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 — will be freed from a Scottish prison on compassionate grounds.
Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said the former Libyan secret service agent, who was serving a life sentence, has terminal prostrate cancer and will be allowed to die in his homeland — despite protests from the U.S. and victims’ families.
The private jet of Libya’s leader, Muammar al-Qaddafi, was to collect al-Megrahi at Glasgow Airport after he was released.
“I cannot imagine having compassion for a mass murderer and terrorist who killed 270 people,” said Susan Cohen of Cape May Court House, N.J., whose 20-year-old daughter, Theodora, died in the blast. “My daughter is dead. She is the one who deserves compassion.”
“The Scots have folded very cowardly,” she said. “The only sliver of justice we had was al-Megrahi — and now we don’t even have that.”
Pan AM Flight 103 — which was carrying mostly Americans from London to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport — broke into pieces as it up flew over Scotland, on December 21, 1988. All 259 people on the airliner and 11 on the ground were killed when the jet crashed into the town of Lockerbie.
Among the victims were 35 students from Syracuse University, four from Colgate University and four from Brown University — all going home after a semester abroad in London. The average age of the passengers was 27.
Investigators ruled that a plastic explosive planted inside a Toshiba tape recorder punched a 20-inch-wide hole on the left side of the plane’s fuselage. …..
Where was al-Megrehi’s compassion? What has he done to deserve compassion? He hasn’t even shown remorse!

This demon in human clothing delighted in the terrifying, horrific death of 280 innocents. He now expects to see his home and family to die in peace. Those murdered expected to live their lives with their families in peace. What will this sign of weakness gain us? It will again show those who wish to destroy us that we are weak and forget easily. You see. this is why in Britain we leave sentencing (and decisions on release) to the professionals in the judicial system, not to a baying mob of relatives and bigots as you do in the USA. I guess there are a few more generations between our court system and the lynch mob than there are with yours.
If it’s a sign of weakness to show compassion to a dying man (and BTW almost certainly an innocent fall guy as the relatives who attended his trial keep pointing out, though now his appeal is dropped we’ll never know) then count me and all the other Christians in the world as weak. If Andy H and Susan Cohen want to shriek for blood, fine: what religion they follow is up to them. For Christians, however, Christ’s blood is all we need, and once was enough.

Yes Rob S. only bigots and mobs would expect a murderer of 270 to finish a life sentence in prison and not at his home surrounded by family members. We Americans are so cruel. I guess a prison sentence is the same as shrieking for blood. Go home and worship your tired, useless monarchy – you know, the one that tortured and murdered innocents in their royal dungeons. We Americans have moved on from that silliness thanks to the revolution. Maybe Mohmar Gaddafi will send you a thank-you note.

Rob, Andy, 2 things you kidz might want to digest 1- how do you think this evil man got cancer ? What do you really think the fine ppl at MI6/ CIA/ ETC have been doing with all this research & development they have been working on for years? Do you REALLY think it was all just wiz bang techno-garbage like sattilites & predatore drones or paid off informents & digging a well for villagers in some godforsaken backwater of a country ? Doesn’t it cross your mind that somewhere someone’s research might have found a way to reverse engineer cancer & it may not have cured BUT now they know how to tailor it to a persons particular DNA who can’t possibly know they’ve been infected with it.
