Recession? What Recession? House Members Give Bonuses to Staffers

The Washington Times reports that House employees have a sweet little benefit that those of us paying their salaries don’t get.

A month after they voted to punish some corporate executives for taking hefty bonus payouts, members of the House of Representatives quietly gave their own staffers a new potential bonus by making even their top-earning aides eligible for taxpayer dollars to repay their student loans.

The change, which took effect in May, means House employees earning up to $168,411, or the top level, are now eligible for government-funded subsidies to help pay down their student loans.

House officials defend the change as a job-related benefit necessary to keep the government competitive in the hiring market – the same argument corporate chieftains used to defend their own pay scales.

These employees make far more than the average taxpayer, surely they can afford to make their student loan payments. So while millions of Americans struggle during a recession to make ends meet while paying their own student loans, they have the pleasure of knowing they’re also paying the loans of people making far more money than they do.

Just a little more of the “trickle up economics” the democrats champion. It trickles up from our wallets to their pockets. Lucky us.

This comes at a time when the gov’t. announces that there will be no COLA increase for Social Security for the next two years. OK to give everything to illegals who pay nothing into it, and shafting those who paid all of their working lives. It shows where their priorities lie.

Oh, not to mention the stimulus checks that went to prisoners. I didn’t get to that story yet.

How about we stop paying taxes?

All of us, all at once.

Withholding is NOT mandatory, you can opt to pay (or not Heh heh) on your own.

**Will I now get audited….or have someone knock on my door?**
