Some things are just too big to ignore. I can’t wait to see tomorrow’s coverage of today’s events, and the spin the media puts on it.
And can I just say, I’ve always been proud to be an American - but I’m especially proud today!
Politico was quick to point out that the “freedom fighters” were mostly white. Nice, make it all about race. They must have missed Mason Weaver’s fine speech. He told the president “I thought you’d want a black man to speak to you without a teleprompter.”
The British press was kind to the Tea Partiers.
Up to two million people marched to the U.S. Capitol today, carrying signs with slogans such as “Obamacare makes me sick” as they protested the president’s health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending.
The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the Washington Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.
People were chanting “enough, enough” and “We the People.” Others yelled “You lie, you lie!” and “Pelosi has to go,” referring to California congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.
Demonstrators waved U.S. flags and held signs reading “Go Green Recycle Congress” and “I’m Not Your ATM.” Men wore colonial costumes as they listened to speakers who warned of “judgment day” – Election Day 2010.
Richard Brigle, 57, a Vietnam War veteran and former Teamster, came from Michigan. He said health care needs to be reformed – but not according to President Barack Obama’s plan.
“My grandkids are going to be paying for this. It’s going to cost too much money that we don’t have,” he said while marching, bracing himself with a wooden cane as he walked.

Many protesters said they paid their own way to the event – an ethic they believe should be applied to the government.
They say unchecked spending on things like a government-run health insurance option could increase inflation and lead to economic ruin.
Senator Jim DeMint even had to correct Fox News on the turnout. Brian Wilson reported tens of thousands of protesters and Senator DeMint said it was more like hundreds of thousands. (H/T Freedom’s Lighthouse)
ABC News made sure they pointed out that a few people had signs depicting Obama as Hitler, even though they displayed this photo. And they also underreported the size of the crowd, at least in this report.

AP
Thousands of conservative protesters from across the country converged on the Capitol Saturday morning to demonstrate against President Obama’s proposals for health care reform and voicing opposition to big government, what they say is over-the-top spending.
Carrying signs depicting President Obama as Adolf Hitler and the Joker, and chanting slogans such as “‘No big government” and “Obamacare makes me sick,” approximately 60,000 to 70,000 people flooded Pennsylvania Ave, according to the Washington DC Fire Department.
They also included details of Obama’s rally in Minnesota . What a shock. But they did confirm that Obama flew over the crowd as he headed out of DC this morning. Good.
CNN, in this report, wasn’t too bad. But I haven’t watched any of their coverage on TV.
I checked the website of my local newspaper and there was nothing in their headlines at all about the biggest march on Washington in our republic’s history. They did have this headline:
[wait for it]
[wait for it]
Golden Harvest Festival at Beaver Lake Nature Center. Oh, that’s big news. In all fairness, they let us know every day how they feel about Tea Partiers and how much they loooove Barack Obama. To be fair, I went back and checked under national news. After scrolling through two pages of headlines (including six Obama health care headlines) I finally found three links to what appears to be the same AP story about the march on Washington, DC.
I won’t hold my breath waiting for an above the fold, front page story covering the rally in tomorrow morning’s paper.
Update: The New York Times reports that the magnitude of the crowd took authorities by surprise. Of course they had to point out the few in the crowd who were somewhat uncouth.
Update 2 – Not exactly main stream, but Alan Colmes continues with the meme that this is an AstroTurf movement. RS McCain is in DC partying after the party and it’s anything but AstroTurf.
Update 3 – I forgot to include this MSNBC report. The America haters must have had Saturday off.
